My father has moved into The Hearth at Glastonbury. Some of the staff are good, but the majority, in my experience in memory care, really don't go the extra mile or even do the minimum that I believe is required of a memory care facility. I feel that they know that the patients have memory issues and cognitive issues and aren't necessarily as demanding in some ways and so they don't go the extra mile. For example, my dad asked for another piece of pie for dessert and they're like, "It's gone. We have no more pie." They had plenty of pie in the assisted living, and I think they're just too lazy to go over and get that. We were there when it happened. The nursing care is very good. The facilities are adequate. It's not great, but not poor. The food is not good. Most of the activities are done in a large circle and it's like trivia. There's not a lot of one-on-one or even small group activity to improve cognitive function. They offer physical therapy and occupational therapy for an extra cost. I think assisted living is better.
