I kind of got turned off immediately by Brookdale Oceanside. I had an appointment to come and visit and I was there for 20 minutes before they showed up. The rooms were adequate, I noticed that the people were just sitting around in the memory care area. Nothing was going on, they're just sitting and staring. It looked clean. I didn't like the staff or the person giving me the tour, but I met one of the maintenance people who seemed very nice. Watching the residents, I didn't see much of the staff with them. The rooms that I saw there were average. It's located close to the local hospitals.

We visited the memory care at Brookdale Oceanside. They were doing lots of activities. There was a nice group of people in the activity area, which we liked because they had different stations. They had like a sewing machine or an ironing board and a puzzle station. You could be independent and do what it is you like to do, or you could be in a group by sitting at a table and playing cards and things like that. The facility was nice and clean. The atmosphere was pleasant. I did not see any outdoor space, but it doesn't mean they don't have it. The marketing director showed us around. He was very pleasant and most people would say hello and welcome and things like that. They were pleasant.

I toured Brookdale Oceanside. It was fine. It seemed good. The staff member was fine. She was good. I didn't notice anything bad. I looked at a room. You have to furnish your own room. I looked at the menu, and it was good. The amenities looked like they were very good for the people that live there. They have a lot of creative activities like puzzles, movie days, and stuff like that. They have a big community area with tables, and chairs, and a TV set area. However, I didn't care for the prices. You have to share a bathroom and pay a lot of money, and then it's almost $6,000 to have a studio. I know they're getting care, but that's a lot of money. The list of activities looked really good. When I was there, they were watching a movie, and it seemed enjoyable. It was good. That's the only activity that I saw.

Brookdale Oceanside was very nice. The staff was very personable and very nice. The place was not big, but it was clean and very nice. However, my mom didn't qualify. I didn't see the rooms, but the dining area was nice. The place seemed clean.

Mom is in memory care. We love it there. Their staff is top notch. We’ve had a great, many experiences. She loves to dance. They have dance music. They have so many things that she is very busy. She has even lost weight because they have such a healthy diet there, and they keep them very active. They have their whole floor. There are 2 people in each apartment. We have a key to her apartment so we can get in. The whole floor is locked with a code, and family members can get the code to get in and out of the whole floor.

My mom went into Memory Care there around the first of the year. I have nothing but good to say about them. They are wonderful and very attentive. They keep the residents engaged and involved. I like the idea that they're right on it. They keep the people engaged and not sitting off in a corner with no one tied to wheelchairs like in a nursing home. They were doing mind games with them, and doing a little bit of exercise with them. I was very impressed with that. It's an old facility, not glamorous, but it has exactly what she needs. Whenever the whole family gets together with her, they have a place off to the side, out of the unit where we can meet with her and have birthday parties and such. The only thing is that I don't feel that they took enough time to bring her out into the general population. But it all worked out better for her and better for us.
