I was impressed with Astoria Park & The Villas. It was not only clean and well run, but they'd put a lot of care into making it a pleasant atmosphere. I saw some of the activities that the residents engage in and I was very impressed, especially with the karaoke. I thought that was a really brilliant idea. I was impressed with the staff. They're friendly and competent. I thought it was a really good place if that's the level of care you're looking for. Also, it's self-pay.
They have group rooms where people can gather and engage in activities such as art and singing. They made good use of their space. The memory care is separated in the western part of the complex. I interacted with the woman who gave me a tour and she was absolutely wonderful. I witnessed some of the staff running programs for the residents and also keeping the place clean, and they were just doing a really good job.
They have a couple of small outside areas that were enclosed within the buildings, but they don't have a large campus with extra acreage for the people to go outside the building itself. The outdoor areas that I could see were confined by the building, but I'd be happy to have my parent there if it were easier and we have the financial wherewithal.
