My father has moved into Golden Haven. They have a barber and a masseuse for massage therapy. Depending on your insurance, doctors could visit there, which is a big plus. The place is pretty big. Also, the director is really on top of things, which is a big plus. I know my dad liked the food, so that's a good thing. They have dancing, and they have different things there within the facility. They have a garden in the back.
We liked the doctor at Golden Haven even though the place was really run down. It looked like the people who cleaned the windows didn't do a good job. It looked clean when you walk in. The rooms were typical and didn't have carpets. You can have either semi-private or private rooms. They had activities for the residents. The staff was OK and showed us around. It didn't seem like they're well trained to manage someone with Alzheimer's. When you walk in the hallways, they had patched up the floor, so it didn't look good nor friendly to me.
Golden Haven was an older facility and kind of rundown. The staff seemed nice. It seemed clean enough, but it was dark and in need of repair. I had a friend who had her husband there because he became very violent with Alzheimer's and it was the only facility that would take him. I was very uncomfortable in that facility. They give good care, but aesthetically speaking, it was a turnoff for me. The parking lot was in disrepair. It would be my last choice. The rooms had two people to a room sharing a bathroom. The rooms were nice and small, but workable. The staff seemed very attentive and friendly, but the facility was depressing. I'm sure they give good care.
Golden Haven is a facility that is very specific for Alzheimer's and dementia patients only. The facility inside is great. It's very clean. The support staff is really unique. They take really good care of my mom. They are very secure so they don’t get a lot of wanders. We are really, really pleased with them. Her room is very nice and it is setup exactly for her needs. The whole person is setup around caring for people with memory problems. Their dining is very nice and the food is very good. They do a lot of painting which is great because my mom is a painter. They also have music and they have games.
During the two and a half years my friends great aunt stayed at this facility, I visited approximately 10 times. The reason I had visited so much is that my friend didn't have a car so I would take him here to visit his great aunt. Throughout my visits, I had many encounters with staff, and living situations in this facility. I would rate the staff a 6/10 at this facility, as some were very helpful yet quite a few staff did not seem to be enjoying their jobs. I did have multiple issues helping my friend deal with problems we were having with noisy neighbors , as his great aunt had a very bad problem with focusing on her reading and would get very irritated with distractions. One time a staff member yelled at me because I had asked her a question. Other than these few issues, the staff seemed to be pretty friendly and helpful. The space in her room was a little limited, and I found the bathroom to be slightly small for one at an assisted living facility as my friends great aunt did have a bit of a difficulty taking care of her business in a space so small with her walker and all. I must say the janitorial and sanitation aspect of this place is top notch, very clean and spotless. Lots of parking, sunny rooms, and pretty flowers and trees all around the facility make this place fairly peaceful .
