Aegis Living Fremont was nice. It didn't feel like a convalescent hospital. It feels more like an apartment and a hotel. It was well taken care of and kept up. They kept the residents busy all day. They made sure they were getting stimulation and attention all day in the memory care. Something was going on to keep the residents active. Their staff ratio is 4 to 1 or 5 to 1. So, you're getting a lot of care. It's just cost-prohibitive for me.

My mother-in-law is in Aegis Gardens Fremont. She has only been there three months. We chose Aegis because they have a different philosophy when it comes to memory care. All of their staff are trained in memory care. They allow memory care patients and assisted living patients to co-mingle, which we like. My mother-in-law has no short-term memory and is reasonably high functioning, so we really wanted her to have the option of doing this. The grounds are beautiful. The facility is beautiful. They have a central dining hall for the assisted living residents and a central dining hall for the memory care residents. I would say overall, it's pretty good. They've been very nice. They respond to our emails and phone calls. The grounds are clean. Every day there is a calendar published. They have movies every night. They have people that come in and do a set of senior appropriate exercises in the morning. They also have activities in the afternoon and a sing-along. They have a van that can take you for a drive. It's all scheduled and posted on the wall every single day. I haven't eaten there yet because of COVID, but I'm told the food is really good. I know that the residents there are talking about dinnertime. It's a very good value. They have a high initial community fee that you have to pay one time, but the month to month is very reasonable.

I went to the memory care unit of Aegis Living Fremont. It just looked like they didn't have a lot to offer. It didn't seem like they had a good-sized, communal room. They had this area that looked like a little diner, but it didn't look like it had been used. It just seemed like the rooms were smaller and older, and the bathrooms were smaller. I didn't know where the med techs were located. The back courtyard had a lawn, trees, and some benches. The communal area had a TV and some tables. That's the communal dining room there too; they're one in the same. They were playing some type of a board game, and it looked like they had activities with some residents. The people there were older, and it does seem a lot quieter. My brother is on the younger side; he's sixty-two. I saw the room that they were going to offer me and it was at the back, but it just seemed like it would be hard for him to maneuver. It looks like the shower stall was a lot smaller, and he would have to have a chair because he has had a leg amputated. He needs to have a chair that rotates so he can get into it. It looks like a very small, compact shower area, and the bathroom didn't seem as big. I would like to have a big bathroom so he can turn his wheelchair in there, and that one was a little bit smaller.

My mother-in-law is at Aegis Gardens Fremont. I think it is very nice, but kind of expensive. Honestly, the service is not that good. Perhaps because of the situation right now with COVID and stuff like that, but my mother-in-law always complains. You get sick and tired of the food after a while, I think. The place is clean, luxurious, and a nice place. The room is large and accommodates all kinds of furniture. An elevator is there. Facility is very well done. They have bingo, exercising, games, and they have entertainment coming in playing pianos. It is good.
