I've toured Carefield Castro Valley Assisted Living & Memory Care a couple of times before, and this was the first memory care that I brought my mom to see. Most of it is assisted living and then you have your memory care doors. It was a fairly small area and it's pretty average from places that I'd seen as far as the layout. Mom didn't like it for my father, but it would be comparable to any of the other places that I visited. The room could be private or shared.
The staff that I interacted with was pleasant, knowledgeable, and gave us all the information that we needed. The room was a little small but does the job. The layout was kind of on the average size for memory care, but the outdoor area was small. They do activities. I didn't see anybody doing any, but there was one very small common area. They didn't do anything to put me off. I thought the facility was fine. If my father could have moved in there, that's where we would have put him, being in proximity to our house and the setup and the environment.

I toured Carefield Castro Valley for my mother. This one was also really nice, and I liked it. The residents seemed happier. I loved the tour guide; she was lovely. The facility was very nice, and the layout was a little less confusing than the one I saw in another location. The memory care was very simple and so I kind of like that better.
The only thing I didn't like is it's in Castro Valley and we're in Dublin. So, I may not choose that because it's too far. I want to be able to visit my mom. But it was very nice, and it was bright and had kind of a more homey feeling.
The rooms were very nice. They did have their showers, which I don't care for because my mom needs help with the shower anyway. But it seems like the residents were a little bit more engaged. Maybe they're younger. The dining room was nice.
