The Brookfield at Oaktree had their memory care and assisted living right there together. Plus, it's right next to the Veterans Administration clinic where I go for my medical care. So, it's good. I can just go there for my medical treatments and then see my aunt. It's a beautiful place, too. She's in the memory care unit, and they provide personalized care. The staff members are so friendly and helpful, and they seem to really care about the residents.
They have an excellent activity room. They could go in there and they could paint and draw. They have television, games, and they can put puzzles together or read. They also have a courtyard that you can walk out into. It's enclosed and the rooms go around the courtyard. So, you can just walk out into the courtyard and there's no worry about you wandering off or anything. It is so nice and the rooms are amazing.

I went and had lunch at Brookfield Assisted Living and Memory Care. She took me on a tour and showed me the memory care unit. They're less expensive at $4,250 a month, but that's something I couldn't afford.
The administrator was very informative. She invited me for lunch and then took me on a tour. I was there during the resident's lunchtime, and I was very impressed with the number of attendants that were watching and assisting the residents while they ate. I was glad to see they weren't in the dining room by themselves or on their own. They had several aides standing behind them, ready to assist them if they needed it. I was pleased with it. It was just not in my financial budget.
I liked that the memory care was separate and had a separate entrance. The rooms were adequate. The one I looked at was more of a studio type with a living area and a bedroom. It had a pretty large bathroom with a walk-in shower and a small kitchen area without stoves or anything. It was just the sink and a small refrigerator.
I personally couldn't see my husband standing there by himself. I'm sure it's a personal preference because I'm sure some of those residents had lived by themselves before. In our case, he has not. The room was nice.
The facilities were nice. They have two buildings. One building is assisted living, and the other one is memory care. The memory care center was up on a hill by itself. They have rooms that faced a garden area, so if they went outside, they were in a contained garden area in the middle (not toward the outside doors of the street).
They had an activities room, where they did arts and crafts. They had a bulletin board that showed some type of dance activity, maybe dance and bingo combined. They had an activities board and had things planned for them. They had a separate big craft room that they use for arts and crafts. It was lunchtime, so everyone was pretty much eating when I was there. The residents seemed to be pretty sociable and interacted with one another. I was also really happy to see there were several aides in there to help them.
We had codfish patties, French fries, red beans, and rice. The food was very tasty. The staff who was assisting me had not been there very long. I thought she did OK with the information she had, but I could tell she hadn't been employed very long.
