The first thing visitors to The Arboretum Senior Living notice is its natural setting in Menomonee Falls. Located on 16 wooded acres with a private pond, it allows people to enjoy nature throughout the changing seasons, yet it’s only minutes away from shopping and other conveniences. At The Arboretum, you’ll find many opportunities to stay active and involved. Join neighbors who play in the handbell choir, sing in the chorus, or practice Tai Chi. There’s a competitive Wii bowling league, a men’s club, a monthly travelogue and a full calendar of cards and crafts. There is always something to do, and someone to do it with.
You’ll also find that everyone who works here has one thing in common: an appreciation and respect for older adults. You’ll see it in the friendly smiles, the genuine interest in stories from the past and the way our staff relates to everyone who lives here.
The activities offered at The Arboretum match the diverse make-up of those who live here. Folks at The Arboretum are as active as they want to be. Every month there is a full calendar of social and educational opportunities offered to residents, including specialized calendars for our programs serving the physically frail and those with dementia.
In our communities, seniors do not merely reside. They thrive. That’s because ensuring their good health and helping them stay active and engaged isn’t merely part of a mission statement that hangs on a wall, it’s part of our daily routine. And our full-time Lifestyle Director monitors the number and types of programs at The Arboretum monthly to ensure a balance of social, wellness, creative, educational and spiritual activities are scheduled. Social
Stop at a Coffee Klatch and discuss the news of the day, join the knitting club or the baking group, play trivia or bridge. Plan to join a group to watch Sunday afternoon sports. Check the calendar for the monthly birthday party and what concerts, sightseeing or lunches are coming up. The list goes on....
Health & Wellness
Start the day with a morning stretch, stop in at the Arbor Fit gym and use the circuit training equipment or try chair yoga or Tai Chi. The Walking Club gets everyone moving and doubles as a social club. Build strength and endurance with Wii bowling while you play for a league trophy. Get your blood pressure checked at a scheduled wellness clinic, or attend a low vision meeting. And enjoy healthy and tasty dining daily, with choices at every meal, prepared onsite by highly trained chefs. In independent or assisted living, we offer tangible ways to live healthier.
Creative and Educational
Play in the handbell choir, sing in the chorus, line dance, try humor hour, or try a new craft. Consider a writing workshop or take a brain fitness class. Attend one of the presentations like Unfolding the Map. Many people living at The Arboretum have tried new creative hobbies they just never seemed to have time to try before. It’s easy to stay active and involved.
Spiritual
Attend Lutheran or Catholic services and communion, or join others for rosary hour, held twice a week. Go on a scheduled outing to Holy Hill. My parents just moved into The Arboretum Senior Living. They're in the independent living space. They really liked The Arboretum because it offered the independent, the assisted, and also memory care, which I think is really going to be important, potentially for my dad in the near future. They liked the fact that it's in the same hometown where they've been living for the last 30 years. Avery spoke with me at length for probably an hour before we toured, and has been just wonderful to my mom and dad. They're adjusting OK, but everything is very new for them, but I think Avery and the staff there have been very welcoming and trying to get them set up with their landline and cable and everything, which is a little bit confusing, but hopefully it's all going to work out. My sister and I are very pleased with the service they've gotten so far, and we think it's going to be a really good place for them.
It's a slightly older facility than I think they were hoping, but they're OK. Their apartment is spacious. They have a full kitchen and the kitchen and the apartments were remodeled in the last few years. They have a full washer and dryer, and there's a little room even for washing. The only thing is it doesn't have central air-conditioning, and this time of year it's fine, but I think they just have a couple of standalone air-conditioning units in the living room and in the bedroom. Other than that, I think they're very happy. It's a two-bedroom apartment and they feel like it's sufficient for what they need.
It has a very small exercise room that my dad says he'll use when the weather is bad, and he can't get to the YMCA, which is what he likes to do. It's not perfect, but it's good enough, and he said he'll definitely use it. They have quite a few programs and activities, although I don't think they've attended any yet because they just moved in, and over the weekend they were just kind of unpacking, but I know they were excited about some of the activities that are offered in the facility. They have different people that come in and do different programs with them. In terms of the size, my mom told me there are 56 residents who are in the independent living space, and about 100 or so that are in assisted living, and maybe another 20 in memory care.
The facility is a little bit older and not as up-to-date as some of the other ones that they saw. Otherwise, the niceness and friendliness and everything are definitely very, very nice. They haven't had any meals yet. They haven't gone yet to activities, but in terms of the variety, it's not as good as some of the others, but they're still nice. They're significantly less expensive than some of the other places they looked at, which is partly why they went with them.

I like The Arboretum Senior Living for my sister. I could tell that it was an older building. It needs some more modern updates, but aside from that, it was clean, and it was very inviting and very nice looking inside. The staff was very friendly and actually, a lot of the residents that live there were very friendly also. It was a welcoming environment.

My mom is going to move into The Arboretum Senior Living. She is going to start in independent living. It is welcoming and inviting. People are moving about, and there are enough activities to keep going. Everybody was, 'hello, hello.' They're very friendly. The rooms were spacious and clean. They were larger than I expected. I like the fact that her independent and assisted living could be in the same apartment, so I don't have to move her every time. I like the convenience of her being able to stay.
The dining area is very welcoming. We have not eaten there. One of the big things my mom wanted is, my mom is a card player, she's a nature walker, she's big on her spiritual life, and she's a crafter, and all of that is offered. When she moves towards memory care, I like the fact that they have a handle on keeping them busy, knowing about the sundowning and knowing about it and the various aspects of it. When I asked about ratio turnover, I know Arboretum is rebuilding itself up, but everybody there seems to be back on board.
My mom is going to have a balcony. They have a pond, and they have a nature walk as well. They have a walkers' group. The entire back area is all wooded, so it's very nature-oriented, which is very calming. They have a courtyard, so they have things where you can go and relax. The staff was quick in responding. They went out of their way to give an evening tour because I couldn't come during the day with my work schedule. So they re-worked their schedule with me. They're very kind and very open to questions and sharing information. The communication was strong from the minute you walk in with the reception desk all the way through. Even on the tours, the workers were greeting you. It's an older facility, so if somebody is looking for like the newest of new amenities, that's not what they're going to get there, but they're going to get every amenity that they need.

My mom will be moving into The Arboretum Senior Living. There you can be in the same apartment and just transition from independent to assisted. It's very woodsy, their location, and they have nice balconies in their rooms. It's large and feels like nature rather than a hospital. The staff was very friendly. The residents were all out and about, doing puzzles, playing cards, and socializing. It just seemed like more of a homey place rather than institutionalized.
Although I liked the person that was giving the tour, I had to ask her to see a lot of things. I asked where the storage lockers are, where the garbage goes, or where the laundry is. So, I was asking more of the questions; but she was very nice and very friendly. Once I asked the question, she showed them to me immediately.
They have a beauty salon. They have an onsite doctor that comes in every two weeks. They have an onsite psychologist. They have a walking path with a pond where the residents go to feed ducks and turtles on site. They have a small library, dining, and kind of a separate area for their programs like their activities and exercise classes. They don't have a separate room for it, but it's like a cordoned-off area where a folding door closes. That's why we chose The Arboretum because it felt woodsier and kind of protected and not being wide and out in the open with bad views.

The Arboretum was very nice and very big. The gal who took us around was very, very nice. She was excellent. They had a room that I was really impressed with, but it was taken already, along with the couple of rooms we saw. The staff was tremendous, and that was the one that I was impressed with the most. The location was fine. It's in the middle of Menomonee Falls. They have a game room in there, bingo, and they do line dancing, just the common ones though.

I visited The Arboretum last year. I thought there was quite a bit of security there. I liked the place. We were all set to go, then my wife died, so that was what turned and changed everything. I saw the rooms, I thought they were nice. I liked the meeting area that they had. The way their restaurant was set up, I liked all that. The staff was friendly. It was a quick tour; the guy did a good job of showing us the place. I saw everybody sitting in a community room.

Our tour of The Arboretum was wonderful. The person who gave me the tour was very good. They were very accommodating to my schedule, and they answered all my questions. They had a nice dining area, a nice lobby, and places for people to get-together like play cards, bingo or whatever is available. They had a good range of activities for residents. The residents were out and about; they weren't just sitting in their rooms. The rooms that we saw were more for the assisted living facility. Well, it was beautiful campus surrounded by trees and some walking paths.

My mom was at the The Arboretum and loved it. She had everything she needed there. They had a lot to do, and I could never get hold of her because she was never in her room. I never heard my mom say anything negative. They didn't have a pool, but they had a library and a salon. The dining area was beautiful and felt very nice.

I like everything about The Arboretum for me and my husband. They have different levels of care in the same building. One half is for senior living and then the other half is assisted living and then they have dementia and Alzheimer's care. They also accept pets. However, the biggest part why we didn't decide to go for The Arboretum was that we didn't have access to the outside without going through the main lobby. You have to go down into the main lobby and out and then out the front entrance to let your pet out. They didn't have like open patios where you can go right outside your door. This is the reason why we didn't choose this place.

My mom is in The Arboretum. She's been staying in this facility for about 3 weeks now. She's still adjusting. There are a lot of things that is needed to be worked out, but it's going okay. The people is fine but we are having few little issues. Although I think it's pretty normal because you have to figure things out in the beginning. But we're working on it, and so far so good.
I can't say she's happy being in that place. Of course she would rather be home for sure, but her physical condition doesn't allow that. Mom is 83. I don't know much she's still adjusting right now. We're just working on things and they're pretty cooperative.
