Pricing goes up every year. Anything extra they do is an extra charge. If a resident doesn't want to go down to the dining room, they will charge to have food taken to room. It's not kept very clean. Her smoke alarm has been hanging from her bedroom ceiling by the wires for weeks. You can eat with them in dining room for a cost of 18.00. the longer my mom is there the less happy we are. But she loves it

My first choice would be the Brookdale Monroe because they had cottages. I like the idea of a cottage separate from everybody for independent living. They also had assisted living. They have outdoor spaces. Their library was separate from everything else like the living room or gathering room, and the library was a fairly good size. They also had a billiard area, which most other places had. The person who gave the tour gave good information. It was not something she normally did because we just walked in without an appointment, the gal who normally does the tour was busy with somebody else. She was not that knowledgeable, but it was not her job.

I toured Brookdale Monroe. First off, they were super nice. The lady was very, very helpful. Right away I realized I almost didn't know all the questions to ask even though I had a notebook with about 10 questions written down. It was an older design. It was a single-story unit located in a neighborhood that's a regular neighborhood. If you're just walking you probably would think it is just a couple of houses together. They didn't have memory care and I was looking for independent care. They had a nice little walking area on the property. The room design, the 1-bedroom was kind, I'll just call it funky, but I thought "this isn't a real 1-bedroom." It's kind of a studio with a wall and it just a funny design. Now, having said that, after seeing many more, I realized that even though it's an apartment, they're not at all the standard 1-bedroom design that I would think if I was renting it for a family. So, the design wasn't my favorite. They were nice and willing to work with us. They had a little garden patio area which was nice, too.

Brookdale Monroe had a large outdoor area inside the facility, which was secure, and it was pretty nice. The room I checked out was nice and clean, and the staff was friendly. The facilities were laid out very nice, so the people can get around easily.

We toured Brookdale Monroe. They had samples of the food set out, but they didn't look very appetizing at all. The place had an institutional feel, instead of a homey feel. The person who gave us the tour talked fast and nonstop, so we could barely get a word in edgewise. She talked the whole time. It didn't look like an active enough place for my mother.
