I like Silver Creek by Bonaventure. They all seemed knowledgeable and friendly. The grounds were very well-maintained. The rooms have all been remodeled, so they're very nice. The residents were busy. The exercise room was busy. It looked like they were playing cards or something. A lot of people were sitting around talking to each other. The staff was very friendly and very cordial. The facility was well-maintained. I was very impressed with it.

We toured Silver Creek by Bonaventure a year ago. It was okay. I kind of had prepped them because I ended up taking my mother-in-law there, and it didn't kind of end up going very well. I had prepped them and had tried to get them to do certain things because I wanted her to like it, and we ended up wearing her out and she was turned off. I was kind of bummed because I prepped them in a certain way and it didn't end up happening the way I wanted it to. They tried, and the staff was nice. They were just trying so hard, too hard because they showed us way too many rooms and she was exhausted by the time we were up and down all these halls. It was a little bit too much of a hard sell. It was super close to where we live. It's like just down the street from us. The apartments were nice. I was looking at a much bigger place, those rooms were way bigger. They had patios, decks off the rooms. She just wasn't interested. They had tons of amenities. They have these beautiful cafes and a bar and a bistro. I know they had a garden that the residents worked on.

We looked at the Bonaventure of Puyallup. They didn't have cottages for us to look at. We saw an assisted living apartment and we also saw an independent living apartment that had a balcony. It was in the corner of the building, two-bedroom, two-bath, with a full kitchen and a nice balcony. This place was beautiful. It's relatively new. It's very nicely appointed. It's like walking into a hotel. They had everything you would want to do. They had a two-lane bowling alley. They had a movie theater, they had a juice bar, they had a pool table, a shuffleboard, and a little bar set off in one area. They had several huge areas where they were doing puzzles and had books, we met the activity director, and she was super nice. They had a nice gym. We had lunch there. We ate there and we had a lovely chicken salad lunch. They were having tacos that day. That was their choice, and then they had some other choices. They didn't have any cottages available, which is what my mom was looking for so they suggested she get on a waiting list. But this place was more expensive than any of the others, but it was everything you'd want. They had a nice hair salon, the gal there does nails too. It was like being in a nice hotel, or a cruise ship. It was beautiful, and everybody was friendly. We talked to quite a few people there. The food was really good, and then they brought us some cookies and we both had a soda. The cottages had garages. But even though they did have independent living in the building, there was no covered parking for anyone there. My mom was kind of looking for a place with a small garage.

Silver Creek by Bonaventure is very nice and very clean. The rooms are very comfortable and the community is very friendly. My father has a one-bedroom apartment. There are also studios and two-bedrooms. The staff is extremely polite, professional, and very friendly. They have happy hour, a theater, and lots of activities throughout the day. Every 30 minutes to an hour there's a new activity; they have activities all day long. There's a library and an exercise room. He's only getting one meal a day, but you can buy whatever you want.

Positives: Apartments are reasonably sized, most of the staff are friendly and engaged Good variety of activities: trivia, daily movies, games and crafts. Shopping trips and outings too. Negatives: You do not get the bang for the buck. There are not enough staff, especially at night. 2 staff to cover 70+ residents. Communication from staff to residents is terrible. Staff do not communicate changes, cancellations etc which results in frustration for the residents. Rooms are not cleaned on time or at all and no notification is given. Equipment has broken in the past and not fixed for weeks, (ice machine, elevator). The servers and caregivers are not paid enough. All staff are overworked, because there is not enough staff to cover the basics. There is a lot of turnover, which is to be expected but if pay was increased the good employees would likely stay. Unfortunately there aren't many options for reasonably priced Independent living so we are stuck with this.
