If you have a lot of money, Edgemere is nice. It's a little absurd when you compare the amenities and everything side by side with the place we chose. I don't see how they could justify the cost. In terms of the amenities at the facility, they probably came in second. The most attractive thing for us was what they referred to as the hotel concept. In other words, the layout of the place where the living facilities are connected in the same building, connected with the restaurant and other amenities like exercise room, theater, and everything else. They're all in the same building. Whereas some of the other concepts were like separate buildings, and you have to even go outdoors to get in your car or ask for somebody to take you from one building to the other building. Here, the facilities were very beautifully done. It's a hotel-style kind of thing, where everything was easily accessible like the dining areas and the other areas. I think that the layout of the facility itself is what's attractive to us. The person who gave the tour was not as amicable and friendly as the other place. They were just kind of showing us where things are and did not ask if we have a family, where we're from, or get a little more personal. They didn't really care to know anything about us. They're not as expansive, but they have a little courtyard that seems to be smaller. It was nicely landscaped. They seemed a lot more compact than the other place. They have amenities in the apartment, and it was very comfortable. I just found that it was much, much too expensive. They have this buy-in thing that didn't make any sense to us. If you have that money to put upfront, and that's what they draw from, I'd rather have it in my checking account than in their checking account. There's no reason why they need to be holding on to $300,000 of money. I'd rather have it gaining some interest in my money market account instead of theirs, so it just didn't make sense to me. The monthly fee was not that much different than the other place. It's a little bit higher, but not through the roof.

Edgemere was very close to our home and was the nicest place. We visited several others and they had the nicest facilities and seemed to have the best options for my parents. We looked at both the independent living and assisted living. The staff was very, very good and the lady who gave the tour was excellent and very knowledgeable. She's been there for a long time, so she knew the community, the staff, and the residents. Their facilities were very clean and the layout was very nice and very well-thought-out. They have a pool and a patio where they could have access to the outdoors with a relaxing view of the trees and the courtyard. Those were the things that were important to us, but the most important for me personally was it felt safe for my parents and very close to home.

Leaving a home I loved was not an easy decision, but now that I’m at EDGEMERE oh my, I’m so glad I made the move. The staff is terrific: kind, supportive, working hard to ensure our satisfaction. The apartments are roomy and feel liThe residents are welcoming and friendly, and I have made some wonderful new friends since I arrived. While this is definitely Independent Living, something I wanted, there are support services in place should I ever need them. I am so glad I made this move!
