I appreciate the thoroughness of the information that was given to me by Brookdale Westlake Hills. It was a good fit for someone who is looking for a continuing care facility. I saw all the levels of care they offer, which includes independent living, assisted living, and a nursing home, and I thought the facility was well-maintained.

Brookdale Westlake Hills is on the top of our list. It had beautiful grounds. The staff was very friendly. Everyone knew each other's names. They had some larger units. We ended up picking it because they had two-bedroom units. Their amenities were nice. It felt like you were in a resort. Their dining was served restaurant-style. There is a pool and a hot tub outside. They had some gardening, which was a cool feature for people that wanted to do that outside. It sounded like they did a lot of activities where they would take them places and then also bring speakers in and have things in on their campus for people to do. They provided transportation to the doctors. They have health care on-site. The staff was wonderful, super knowledgeable, and very friendly. She's checked back with me multiple times and has been very responsive. She knew all the names of everybody we passed in the hallways, everybody's story, and knew what was happening with them. They are very family-oriented. They provide two meals a day.

Brookdale Westlake Hills reminds me of Beverly Hills here in California. It's got that type of atmosphere. Their building is a little bit differently put together but it's still nice even though it's not exactly the way I want it built. The people were very nice. They came over when we had our meals there during the 3 days that we stayed there. When I told them I would pay for the meals they said, "Oh no you are our guest." I met a couple of nice people, this lady asked if we are moving and I said I'd love to but I have a home that has to be sold before we make that decision. Because of the virus though, we decided to go ahead and keep the house anyway. The apartment that they put us up in Westlake was better than the guest quarters we stayed at another Brookdale facility we visited. At Westlake it was a real apartment that normal tenants actually live in. At the other facility, it's just a little area for people to come in and spend the night. It wasn't that impressive. I told the manager that maybe they should do a little bit of remodeling of the guesthouse to make it more appetizing to the person who would actually like to move there. He said they're working on it. At Westlake the apartment they made us stay was really, really nice. It was a 2-bedroom, the kitchen is built a little differently but it was nice that way. Everybody was very complimentable in how they spoke to us, how they dealt with us, they were just very nice. The food is good.

I chose Brookdale Westlake Hills because of the location. I thought the place was really nice and well-taken care of. We met the staff and there seems to be a real sense of community. They have a library, onsite food, a beauty salon, they have community worship, transportation, and some kind of athletic exercise program. I had lunch there once and the food was very good. They have a wide range of activities like art class, multiple exercise classes, cards and games, and so on. I think their prices are comparable and competitive to everybody else.

I was apprehensive when I moved into the Brookdale Westlake Hills Independent Living facility in February 2015. Would I enjoy the freedom that my wife and I had in our home? Would I be comfortable in my Brookdale apartment? Would the Brookdale meals be as good as those coming from my kitchen? Now that I have been in Brookdale for almost a year and a half I realize that my apprehension was all wrong. Brookdale is a wonderful place. I have all the freedom that I ever had—I can come and go as I please. I live in a very comfortable apartment and the meals in the Brookdale dining room equal or exceed those that I previously enjoyed. However, the real plus to living at Brookdale is being a member of the family of Brookdale residents and associates. Both are exceptionally friendly and the associates are ready and willing to help with any problem I might have. Brookdale provides both entertaining and enlightening activities every week. The calendar is crowded with concerts, lectures, games, trips to nearby attractions, and other activities. I can take part in as many or as few as I want; they are more than enough to keep me busy. I’m glad I moved to Brookdale!

My father lived at Brookdale Westlake Hills for four years. From the day he walked into the community he felt at home. The staff did an amazing job of welcoming him and helping him get acclimated. They took the time to get to know him and his interests. The residents were friendly, helpful and invited him to join them at meals and activities. My brother and I were concerned that he would isolate since my mom had just passed away six months prior to his move, but it was quite the opposite. He took part in all activities from exercise classes, to lectures, to trips outside the community. We felt such comfort and peace knowing, not only was he in good hands and looked after, he was having a blast. When his circumstances changed and he needed additional care, the transition to Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing was so easy and he was happy that he could still interact with the good friends he made while in Independent Living. And we were thankful that we didn't have to find another community. My family is deeply grateful for the wonderful care he received.
