The sales manager at Brookdale Galleria was trying to sell me a unit on the spot but I told them we weren't at that point yet. When I started asking the person about cost and coverage, he said, 'You'll have to talk to someone else.' It's very nice. It's more like the Cadillac of places. It was very expensive. We walked to all the common areas. They've got a salon for hair, and they've got a little library. The staff showed me their PT room and their chapel. I asked about services, and they said that they have different ministers that come in maybe on different days because my mom was involved in church and stuff. He took me by the game room, and he said there's even one room where they play poker and what goes on in there. He took me to the activities room and showed me where they were doing art and crafts. The community was very nice and very clean. There were no smells. It seemed like a very clean and well-kept facility.

The apartments at Brookdale Galleria apartments were very spacious, very well laid out, and had big closets and balconies. They were right next door to a nice urban park, so there was greenery around it. They had valet parking. They had a swimming pool. The furnishings were nice, and the apartments were nice. They have very good food.

Brookdale Galleria was the second on my list. They invited me to eat lunch and showed me around, and I thought it was very nice. The food was very good; I had a good salmon steak. The atmosphere was excellent. It was exactly what I was looking for.

Brookdale Galleria (formerly Hampton at Post Oak) was a little small. My husband had broken both his legs and was at their medical facility for eight weeks. The staff was excellent. The facilities for the medical part were fine, but the independent living area was not conducive to our needs.

Brookdale Galleria was very nice, but it looked like everybody there was very crippled, and I’m not in that shape yet. PLus, it was very expensive. I wouldn’t mind staying there, but it seemed like everybody was in so much worse shape physically than I was and it was depressing to me. I found the facility to be very nice, but they didn't include a washer and dryer in the apartment. The staff seemed very nice. The dining room was beautiful, and the people seemed to like it. They seemed to be social and dressed up really nicely, and I don’t want to have to do that. It didn’t look like the place for me. I didn’t fit in.

Brookdale Galleria (Formerly Hampton at Post Oak) has a very stable staff -- they've been there a long time -- and it has a good location. I know somebody who has a relative there, and they are happy. The food is good. The facility is clean and very nice, plus they offer all the other services all the way down to Alzheimer's units.

Hampton at Post Oak is absolutely beautiful. The woman who took me around the property was very nice. I stopped at the ground floor apartments but the ones she showed me were kind of dark. If you went up to the 2nd or 3rd floor, you got more light. The facility though is a little beyond my price range. That was the first place I visited and it's really hard to think about what would be appropriate for someone with my age. Everybody's preferences are different but I would prefer probably a smaller, not as quite as large a complex, with a mix of residents with different ages, with families or just singles or couples. That would give me a much more livable village kind of feeling.
