Royal Retreat was nice and the administrator was awesome. She gave me a full tour of the building to see which areas would accommodate my aunt and I was very pleased with it. The apartment was just a bit small. If you only really needed a place for the residents to stay and be safe, then I guess it would accommodate, but my aunt was in a wheelchair. Also, I did not find it accommodating with the amount of money that we were going to pay every month, plus cable, plus utilities. I thought it was all kind of wrapped into that one overall cost. It was like $1400 a month plus cable, plus utilities. The apartment had a small refrigerator and a stove so you could buy food, but if you didn't feel like cooking, you could purchase the food cart where you could eat in the dining room area with what they served everybody else at the center. That was like $450 a month. They offered activities. One lady showed me something that she was knitting. I was excited to see that there was an onsite laundry room and an onsite beauty shop, too. When you walked in, the front area was very nice and they had security.

My mom moved into Royal Retreat. Everybody's nice and it's a nice place. She has a one-bedroom, it's got a living room and a kitchenette, and it's got a covered patio in the back. There's a refrigerator and stove, the apartment-size one. They offer meals, there's a dining room, and she's kind of picky with her food. It's kind of an old building, it was built in 1965. There's a movie night and bingo. They do snacks and stuff like that.

We're living in Royal Retreat now. The appearance and layout are both fine. It's a little far to walk to take out the trash, that's the only issue we have with it. The apartment is nice, we like it, it's clean and bright. The staff is very nice and very helpful. They no longer provide any activities, they used to take us in a van and go out once a week, but they no longer do that. They do some board games and that's about it. They provide meals, but the food has gone downhill, and is passable. There's very little fresh food, all the vegetables are canned, there's not enough variety on the menu, and they no longer have dessert. They could improve if they could stop raising the cost every chance they get, and they need to work on their menu and food preparation.

After residing at another assisted living facility in Memphis, we recently moved my elderly mother into Royal Retreat and could not be more pleased! The facility is modern, clean, and updated, with professional and empathetic staff members which has provided us peace of mind and and most importantly, contentment for my mother. My mothers room is spacious with plenty of natural light and quality amenities. I would not hesitate to recommend this facility to anyone looking for quality assisted living for their loved ones.

Royal Retreat was just getting started so it still needed some work, but they were friendly and nice on the tour. They had a small stove in the units, and most of them were single rooms. They didn't have a microwave. The floors were clean. They had a cafeteria and a place where you could get your hair done, they had doctors that would come in, and church services. They gave me a sample of one of their meals and that was nice of them.

I liked it. I was disappointed about them not showing me an actual apartment, though. The dining area was sort of small. I liked the young lady who did the tour, and everybody was very friendly.
