Mom is at Cumberland Village. The facility is beautiful. The grounds are perfectly manicured and kept. The interior always has fresh flowers and is very welcoming. The staff is absolutely friendly and accommodating and they just can't do more for you.
The food and the activities are excellent. They have different outings where they go as a group. They have days where they have wine and appetizers on one day and a piano player or a guitar player. They have bingo, poker, and all kinds of activities. I think we're getting exactly what we're paying for.

Cumberland Village was just a very calm, serene type of neighborhood. It had apartments and houses. It had a very nice woodland setting. It was off any busy highways and roads, which was very nice. It had a swimming pool, a library, a very nice dining area, and menus that we got to see. We did get to see a model home, and it was very nice. It's like a villa, there are probably two units. Two apartments or two houses make up a unit. There's only one staff that we've interacted with. She could not have been better informed, and she was on good terms with the other people who were located there. She gave a very thorough tour.

Everyone’s situation is different however you will be surprised how much we as caregivers and adult children have in common..... and more importantly how much our parents have in common.
Read articles, talk to friends! Choose your battles.
I learned that there are more options to help my Mama be as independent as possible.
Look at all the rooms available and the grounds and entrances. There is something for everyone.
Safety was one of our main concerns. I know Mama feels safe bc she has often told me “do you know someone is at the front desk 24/7” Mama feels as if she has a place to call her own! That is so important to her!
She loves the staff and activities. I feel as if they are her family. There have been times the staff had to call when Mama needed medical attention. I felt that I didn’t have to get I the care right away. They were able to tell me everything I needed to know and I could rest and decide what my need step would be.
She loves the food!!! She love the activities and the people in charge of activities.
Thank you for giving my Mama the opportunity to enjoy these years!!! She deserves it!

We researched many senior living communities before selecting Cumberland Village for my mother. It has been five years since we moved her from Michigan to be near us with zero regrets. Management and staff are overwhelmingly kind and supportive. We have found the facility and rooms to be very clean and comfortable. Dinning/food choices are great and wait staff is very attentive. As well, there are many planned activities for the residents to participate in. My family and friends that have come to visit her are always impressed with Cumberland Village...

I really liked Cumberland Village. It was very well-organized, clean, and really up-to-date, and the people there seemed so happy. The person who assisted us was wonderful and really helpful, and even tried to help us get a lower rate. My sister lives there, and she's involved in a lot of activities. They have so many things going on, and my sister says the food is wonderful.

Cumberland Village has different facilities available. They have one-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom apartments, one-bedroom villas, two-bedroom villas, and houses. We liked the setting and also it is local for us. The facilities are very good and met our needs in size and everything. They're pricey. They have a pool, workout areas, and 24-hour people on-staff.

Cumberland Village is very nice and more for the independent lifestyle. They have a swimming pool, indoor garden planting center, and gourmet chef cooking with white, linen table cloths. The room was very nice and had a kitchenette, living room, bedroom, and bathroom with a patio. A lot of people were in their rooms, but the residents seemed to be happy.

My mother lived at Cumberland Village's unassisted living in Aiken, SC from 2005 until she passed in November 2014 at 95. During that period she went from daily walks and yoga classes to not remembering to change her clothes. My wife and I visited her at least once a week during that entire period, and never, not once, did I hear a cross word from the staff to any of the "guests". There are bound to be some issues when over a hundred elderly people, many of them a little senile, are living in close quarters and sharing activities and meals. All the issues were dealt with quickly, fairly, and with the upmost respect. Many of the staff were there the entire nine years. They knew and truly cared about each individual. At one point my mother lost her cat. After shift change some of the staff went out on their own time to search the neighborhood. I don't think this kind of thing was a one-time occurrence, just an example of how caring they are.
The fee, which is similar to other retirement communities, includes non-stop on site activities ranging from WII bowling, crafts, and yoga classes, to live entertainment and evening social gatherings. They also provide transportation to local stores and doctor's appointments. The three meals a day are not "school lunch" meals, but gourmet meals provided by the chef. We often chose to have our Holiday dinners with Mom in their dining room because the food was better than most of the local restaurants.
My wife and I hope that Cumberland Village is still there and as caring when it becomes our turn to enter a senior living facility.

I visited Cumberland and the lady who showed me around was very nice, very informative and she gave me a lot of information. She seemed to be very experienced and we were happy with her. The rooms were nice and the one we looked at looked like it was a nice shape and it was a private room. It would have been a nice spot for my friend if he had gone there. I think they had a craft room, a piano and a few things. I looked at the calendar and it didn’t look like they had a lot of activities. The dining area was a very large and the security around the building seemed fine.

This facility is great. There are various mini communities built into the larger facility which made it easier to become more familiar with the neighbors and the staff was much more regular. The staff goes above and beyond for the resident and the family members and does everything in their power to ensure the comfort of their residents.

We visited Cumberland VIllage with my mother because she was thinking of moving there to be near us. Ultimately she went to live near my brother so I can't comment on the long term quality of Cumberland Village, but from what we saw on our visit I was impressed. They have a variety of situations depending on the needs of the residents. They have apartment style accommodations as well as patio homes. My mother was more interested in the apartments so we concentrated on that during our visit. Three meals a day are served in the dining room and the menus all looked very tasty. There is no endowment so no expense going on. The apartments are rented unfurnished so the residents can bring their own furniture with them. There is towel and linen service which makes that very convenient as well. The location is very nice and well landscaped. There is a 24 hour concierge on site, courtesy transportation to various parts of town, and a wellness center. This includes a heated indoor pool and a beauty shop. Security looked to be very good but not intimidating for residents who want to invite guests to visit, and the guest are able to eat in the dining room with the residents if they desire. The town of Aiken, where the facility is located, is a wonderful place in it's own right, and Cumberland Village benefits from being there. The downtown is completely revitalized with no downtown blight, and provides many opportunities for entertainment and enrichment. it's perhaps five minutes from downtown to the facility, and also perhaps five minutes to the campus of USCA, a nice liberal arts college with many artistic and musical programs that might be of interest to the residents of Cumberland Village as well. All in all we were very impressed with Cumberland Village and had things worked out differently, I'm sure my mother would have been very happy staying there.

Upon arriving at Cumberland Village for the first time I was very impressed with the grounds. The grounds are very secure and if I had to compare them to a "style" I would compare them to that of a hotel. My father was very hesitant to lose his independence but from the second we set foot into Cumberland Village I could see a sense of comfort come over him. The staff treat you like a human being not a patient. The food is outstanding and prepared by chefs that cater to your needs. There are many different room choices but we decided on an apartment-style residence for my father. It allows the nurses to keep a closer eye on him but the other options are also worth consideration. Another aspect of the atmosphere that helped us with our choice was the amount of activities that they have for residents. They have outside groups visit (musicians, pet therapy, speakers) and the activities are simulating. I've had relatives in other facilities which don't come close to Cumberland Village. It's been nice to know that through all the horror stories out there that there are establishments like Cumberland Village that are a resource for those relatives we love.
