Sunrise of Abington was nice and very clean. The guy walking us around was nice, too. The rooms would have been fine, but they were just not quite as nice as the other facility we went to. They have very limited rooms with any kind of porch or outdoor patio. They all have joint outdoor space, but we wanted more of a private space. It was very clean though and they had a big community room where everybody could meet. Another problem was the location itself, which might be great for some people, but it was not for us.
Sunrise of Abington was really good and the one that we are considering. We like the atmosphere, the place, and the way the apartments are laid out. Most of all, it had a full kitchen. There is not enough closet space, but we can probably work that out. The staff was good and did a good job. They have two meals a day included in your monthly fee. The dining area was laid out very nicely.
I toured the independent living part of Sunrise of Abington, and I was happy with it. The only thing that I was a little hesitant about was the laundry service. They only have laundry facilities on one floor, so you would have to take your laundry all the way up and down. Other than that, I liked it.
It was bright, and it was nice. I looked at their 2-bedroom. Of course, coming from my house, everything looks small. The ones I've seen where my friends are in, it's the same. It's doable. In fact, I've seen some that are smaller, and my friends are OK.
It's very, very well-kept, and the people were very friendly. Nick, the person who gave the tour, was great. There was another woman (I think she's with activities or something), and she came out and welcomed me. She was very friendly. I didn't see very many people. I guess they were in their rooms, or they were out.
Their dining area was very nice, but I did not try the food. I didn't go on a mealtime. They do serve continental breakfast and dinner.
The reason that I was interested in them is that they also have assisted living and Alzheimer's care in the other building, so it's all in one. I could also take my cat.
The staff at Sunrise of Abington was pleasant. Everything seemed a little dated, but some things were set up pretty good like for emergencies (which I liked). I thought it was an excellent way of protecting the family member. The living quarters we saw were very nice. The one that we saw where the bathroom was very close to the bedroom was excellent, and it had the seat for the elderly; that was pretty cool. When we were there, they were having a coffee time, which was nice. The people were nice.
The apartment itself was very nice actually and was traditional. I liked how the staff was very responsive and welcoming as we came in. We didn't see much except for the coffee time that they had. They had a movie room. They didn't have anything for family visiting, but you could specialize a room for an event, which was great. I liked the outdoor patio if you want to go outside and socialize, and my mother likes that kind of stuff. That was appealing.
Sunrise of Abington was very nice, that place was beautiful. The residents can cook their own food there but they also have a dining room where they can prepare the meals if the residents want to.
They have medical on-site, I think that's where the price goes up, because it has all that. It's one of the best ones that I saw though. It has the assisted living and independent. It's very good, you'll be satisfied.
They also have apartments where they have a full stove and a big refrigerator. Most of the other assisted living places only have microwaves.
The staff was very nice and very professional. The place was very clean and smelled very fresh.
