We toured Bonaventure of Salem. The property was not that attractive. It was kind of remote from things. You look out the windows, and you see the major highway very close. The interior of the place felt classy, which appealed to us. The hallways were wide, so that two people with walkers could easily meet and pass through. They were very well lit, too. It felt extra welcoming. They even allowed the residents to decorate their entrance door.
The first time we were there, we were a party of four, plus the guy who took us around. They arranged a lunch for us in their private dining room. The meal was very impressive. The private butler who was serving us, not only was very prompt, but he was like, "Yes, sir. I can get that for you." It felt very welcoming and like a royal treatment, which was an important thing. I would highly recommend that others do that, too.
The rooms were larger than what I expected. The ones we saw were not furnished, but they instantly gave the impression of having plenty of elbow room. You didn't feel crowded or crunched at all in any way. Some of them had washer/dryer hookups, too. It was very impressive. From the moment you came in the front door, it felt classy, clean, and well cared for. We also saw the menus for the three meals, and there were lots of varieties. Their meals seem to be very healthy in terms of content.

The Bonaventure of Salem is my mother-in-law's favorite; she really liked it. It was very nice. In my opinion, it's overpriced for what they provide, but it was nice. The only other thing I did not appreciate was the person who gave us our tour. She was very nice and kind, but she left us in a little family room area to look over the brochure, and she left us to go take a smoking break. We were sitting there for about 15 minutes all by ourselves so she could go take a smoking break, and I was like, "This is a little tacky." What they had to offer was a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom apartment. It looked like each room was available. They are repainting and kind of upgrading each room, which was nice. The rooms were very well kept, the maintenance was topnotch, and it looked nice. Everything was clean, which was great. They used to have activities like beading groups, but with COVID it is difficult. I did not see an activity center; I hardly saw anything. All we saw was the entry, the dining room, and the apartments.

My mom moved into Bonaventure in April this year. We chose this place because it is brand new. It's been open for only about a year now. The facility itself is beautiful. My mom is still independent and very social, that's why we chose this place. This place has plenty of activities for her. They have a pool table, poker tables, a little movie theater, and nice extra exercise rooms. They have church services, happy hour a couple of times a week, and entertainment. They have a bus for planned excursions. They have lots of games like bingo, pinochle, and all kinds of stuff. They just have things going on all the time. In fact, they are actually putting on a play this weekend with some of the residents there. They also have two dining halls. My mom gets two meals a day. I also eat there quite often and the food is pretty good. The staff is very helpful and very nice. I like best that my mother is happy there. Aside from the activities that they have, she gets to meet a lot of people. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place.
