We have selected two places and one of them is the Cascades of Grants Pass. The employees looked very professional. The CNAs and people working in the building were dressed professionally, and that wasn't necessarily a suit or tie, but the scrubs were clean and uniformed, and people didn't have a ton of tattoos or piercings showing. I know that sounds terrible, but when you're dealing with people in their 80s, they have a preference. The rooms were generally very well kept up and clean. The campus is very large with very well-maintained walking paths. I thought the food was fine, maybe just a little bit institutional. I thought the apartments were a good size, but the only thing is none of them on the campus have a full kitchen. They only have a kitchenette, a refrigerator, a microwave, and a sink.

My mother is at Cascades of Grants Pass. She is doing great there. She's an active senior, so it's a good community for her. It allows her to get out and do things with friends without having to drive. She's made lots of new friends there and she likes it. The food is very good. There are activities every weekend. She participates in a wide variety of them. They'll go out to dinner or a play or a movie. They have options to go shopping every week. She's done all of those things.

We chose the Cascades of Grants Pass. We went to see it and we were very impressed. I liked the friendliness of the people there and just the feeling of the place. It was very quiet. It's very well decorated and the rooms were big enough for our furniture, which we were worried about. We thought maybe the rooms will be too tiny. It was close to different things that you might want to go to. The kitchen is not very big. They have a hair salon, a library, a hairdresser, and things like that.

My friend is in Cascades of Grants Pass (Formerly Brookdale Grants Pass Village). I am not real impressed with the place. It's a beautiful facility. It's just not the right place for her. It's clean, it's beautiful, the food is good, but she needs more one-on-one care that she doesn't get there. The place itself is great. She has dementia, but she's not quite that enough to go into their dementia facility. They said they only put people in there that are a flight risk, but she's bad enough to where when she goes down to eat, she always chooses dessert. They keep saying they can't force her to do things. They give you a menu and you could choose, which is great for most people, but she chooses dessert. I've asked them about it a couple of times and nothing has been done about it. When she got there, she was in a wheelchair, so they just assumed that she couldn't walk. She hates it there. They have a lot of activities. It's very expensive. They're charging $1000 for the extra care that she needs, but she's not getting it.

We are choosing Brookdale Grants Pass Springs because of the friendliness of the place. The people were very accommodating, and the place was nice, clean, and tidy. The price was within our range. All the residents were very nice and friendly. The food looked like it would be just fine.

Brookdale Grants Pass Springs is centrally located near shopping area and the school. The community itself is beautiful. The lawn is cared for daily and the grounds are beautiful. Their rooms are very small, but very nice. The food is wonderful. The staff members are very caring and very friendly.

Brookdale Grants Pass Cottages was really nice, but Dad didn’t like the area so much. It was open, friendly, and clean. There was a lot of respect for the people living there. There was a man that had fallen when we were leaving, and everybody was running out to help him -- all the grounds crew and the staff inside the building. Then an ambulance was called, and there was a lot of attention given to him. I knew that if my dad fell, somebody would help him. The location was close to the hospital, and they had a bus that goes there. It had bus trips going to places, too.

I have visited here with my husband twice, once when it was Emeritus and once as Brookdale. The difference was night and day. We had put a deposit down when it was Emeritus, but we had not sold our home yet. Then it changed to Brookdale, so we went back to see what the changes were. We were shocked. The quality and presentation of the food was terrible. The help was half what it had been before. We asked for our deposit back. It took several months, multiple phone calls and 3 visits to get it back. This is not a place I would recommend.

I liked Brookdale Grants Pass Village (formerly Emeritus at The Springs Senior Living Campus) very much. They had a continual set of activities going all the time. There were a lot of people there. They had a dynamic situation at dinner all the time, and there's always somebody to eat with. They had five or six different rooms for every choice. They had big rooms, expanded rooms, and little houses -- which I wasn't interested in because I want to be where the action is -- but they were nice too. You can even get a garage if you wanted one, but the roads getting to it were not very fancy.

My parents moved into Brookdale Grants Pass Village. It's a 3-level care community. So far it has been very relatively positive and easy process for them. They are in a 2-bedroom cottage. My stepdad likes the environment and the way it feels. The facility was very clean and they are offered three meals a day. In case their needs change, they can just be attended right there.

Brookdale Grants Pass Cottages (Formerly Emeritus at The Springs Senior Living) was a larger facility with a wider variety of offerings from cottages for very independent living to assisted living and memory care. It seemed like a very modern and well-appointed place, but the scale of it was large, like a big hotel. It does have common areas and a big dining room that's like a restaurant. I've walked in there without an appointment and looked around, and they contacted me several times afterwards. I spoke to three people in quick succession just inside the door, and they invited me to make an appointment and to have lunch.

Emeritus at Spring Cottages was very nice. It was not a very old facility, and they had a nice outdoor patio. They put people with dogs on the first floor, so that it was easier to get out. They have other levels of care as they are needed, and they have everything from cottages to single room units. All of the facilities, whether it was a cottage or not, had the availability of three meals a day, some housekeeping assistance, and then if you needed more care, they can move you up in a level to where that is available to. It was a very large campus, it was a good sized facility, you have a lot of people close by, and the feeling was that it was quite secure. My only hesitancy about moving there is the cost, and that is my biggest problem at this time. They had a number of activities available, and all I can recall now is that I was perfectly impressed with that.
