My mom has moved into Atria Riverdale. What we like about it, personally, is it's four blocks from my mother's apartment. It's one building, so it's a little bit smaller, and I think for her, it's more intimate that way. Everyone's very friendly. She has enjoyed the food, although lately, she's saying she's not enjoying it as much. Unfortunately, during COVID, they haven't been able to do many activities, but she enjoys the exercise classes. She likes the instructors, and she is doing the exercise program and participating in that. Everyone is very friendly there. I think the COVID is the only thing in question. They were having a hard time getting the booster shot given to their residents. And they've hired some new people, so there have been some transitions during this time as well. But other than that, my mom seems pretty happy. She has a nice room, and she loves her view. It's pretty easy to get around. It's small, and the building is located right next to downtown, so you could go out and walk and get to a restaurant or a store. It's nice that way. I live in D.C., so I don't get to see her too often. So, this is more from my few visits and what I hear from my mom. It's very nice, it's well-maintained, and it's beautifully renovated. They seemed like they were offering a lot of activities. It's limited to COVID, but they always have a movie, and there's a piano player, a concert, or a talk. Of course, I think they do bingo every day for the bingo people. Without COVID, they had a trip into New York I have been told, or to Wave Hill, which is a nice garden nearby. They have been unable to do that, unfortunately. It was really lovely, for my mother's birthday, they brought flowers and balloons, and they sang Happy Birthday to her. It was nice. It feels more like a family. Value for the money is good. We were looking at her coming to Northern Virginia where we live, oh my gosh, it's a lot more here. I would say it's good value for the money.

I live at the Atria Riverdale. They have memory care and I'm not in that. I live in my own 1-bedroom and I love it here. I've been here since 2019. I love the apartment, the housekeeping is great, and reception is great. I love the peace and quiet, too. There are many activities but during the lockdown, there weren't as many obviously for safety reasons. I love the art lectures and the exercise classes, but that was more before the pandemic. The activities are starting again. We get an activity schedule every day at the front desk. The lobby is beautiful, and the patio is beautiful. There is a new chef and the food is terrific. Housekeeping is once a week and is really good, they come in to do the garbage every day and they vacuum. Activities are terrific. They have people from the outside coming in. We have a terrific Engage Life department to help and make sure we're doing activities. For a while during the pandemic, they made a schedule, and visitors can only come one hour, but now they're back where we could have visitors when we want. When visitors come in, they're still taking their temperatures and everyone here. During the lockdown, they were taking them twice a day and they asked us to report symptoms. They were bringing meals to all the rooms during the pandemic, but you could continue with that program whenever you want. I take advantage of that where you could have meals in the apartment. There's a little bit of a choice with the main courses, fish or beef or chicken, and you could put substitutes. There's a beautiful dining room that was closed during the pandemic. I used to go to the pretty dining room. We're on the Henry Hudson Parkway, but I find it very quiet. I'm really happy with the director. They're really not a medical facility, but there is a nurse on the premises. If you need help, they would sort of guide you and their LPNs. There's medication management and that is extra. They would bring you your medicine if you need it and they manage and order the refills. They're in touch with the doctors too if the refills start to run out. There are computers downstairs, a library with books, and a movie theater. I'm doing a lot in my apartment because it's peaceful and quiet here. I've been able to do things here that I wasn't able to do at home because I get help with the housekeeping and with the food. There's a lot of activities going on now, and we get a schedule every day. There's a lot of warm friendly people, too. There's care level zero, one and two where you could pay extra and they'll come and help you with the shower, escort you to the dining room or do room checks. You can have private home health aides on your own, too. Atria Riverdale is more reasonable than others. I think it's a fairly good deal for the money because housekeeping and food is included in it and they've got beautiful apartments. They also have studios that are less money and much larger 1-bedrooms. The kitchen is like walk-in, there's a microwave, no stove, a refrigerator and a really nice bathroom that's marbled, and the sink is marbled. It's a spacious bathroom shower and no bathtub. There's 24-hour concierge service and mailbox. I feel safe here and secure. You get a key with the door fob. I've never had a problem here with stealing from the outside. It's very clean, too. During the height of the pandemic, they were sanitizing the place and all of that. We have elevators. Social distancing has been going on with the pandemic, where they only allow a certain amount of people in the dining room, mask mandate, they separate the chairs, and there's not too many people in one space. There's only a certain number of people allowed in the movie theater. They're following the rules and regulations for Covid. For visitors, too, they have to be screened and answer questions. My mother came about a month ago. They allowed it for an hour and they were allowed up in my apartment, no more than three people for an hour. Now, it's resumed where they could come whenever they want and as long a time as they want and it doesn't just have to be in the apartment. I'm not here for memory care or memory issues. I just needed a quiet calm place where you get assistance with housekeeping and food. You're allowed to have private or agency aides here if you need extra help. Everyone gets assigned to a residents relations counselor and you could call upon him as issues come up. They take email and phone calls, and that's an important piece.

I'm a resident of Atria Riverdale. I'm very happy here. Years ago, I volunteered in a lot of other places and of all the other places, this seems to be the most comfortable for me. Everything is fine. The staff is excellent. They bend over backwards to make me comfortable here. All the staff is wonderful. I have no complaints about the staff. There's always a couple of cranky people around, but basically the staff is excellent here. They're very willing to help you with every little request that you make. I have a one-bedroom that's very comfortable. I'm on the 15th floor and I could look all over Manhattan, Jersey and Bronx. It has a wonderful view. Housekeeping staff is excellent. There are always enough towels, bedding and things that you need. The slightest request, they're happy to get anything you need. We eat in the dining room. I don't have anybody helping me. I'm able to dress myself and do everything by myself. They have games, they play bingo, and they've got discussions about different things. They do a lot of things there. We had someone from the Agriculture, and we did a little planting. They gave us cuttings of plants, and we planted our own plant. There's always something during the afternoon. There are concerts and discussions about things going on in the world, but not politics. It's the best that I personally know. I'm very satisfied. All the things that are going on here, I'm very happy with everything. The food is very good. There's always something to eat. They give you a tremendous choice of food here for lunch and dinner. There's always something you can find to eat. The woman in charge of activities does an excellent job deciding what we're going to do in the afternoon. She's very good and very capable. Everything here is fine.

I'm in Atria Riverdale, and I love it here. They're fantastic. Everybody knows me by name and I don't know half of their names. I'm very popular. I love the activities here. I love everything that goes on here. It's just marvelous. I wouldn't give this up for anything. I'm going to be here till 130. I've been here about a year and a half now. I'm in the cafeteria right now. I just finished up my lunch and it was spectacular as always. I ate 99% of everything they give me. I'm a plate cleaner. Everything is just marvelous. They have a lot of great activities here. They keep you going all the time. It is an assisted living, but it's also for people that can do it on their own or independent. The staff is fantastic. Everybody I've dealt with, I have no problem with. I love my food here. I like to play bingo, that's one of my favorites, and I just learned how to play Rummikub, which is a beautiful game. There's a lot going on here, entertainment, and there are movies every day. Everything is perfect. You can go out whenever you want to. You can do whatever you want. If you're capable of doing it, take advantage. That's the best place I've ever lived.

Atria Riverdale has beautiful places. I want to go and move in there, that's how nice they are. The people were fabulous. The staff was just outstanding. It's lovely, it's fabulous, and it's outstanding. The place was beautiful, and the grounds were beautiful. It's a little tricky getting there, but it's just like a small town. It might have been that the staff knew who we were and that they were on their best behavior, which was OK with me. We saw two rooms, and they were wonderful. We met one of the cooks, which was special. I had a very nice conversation with one of the other activity persons that was in charge. I didn't know the extent of what independent living was, so this place was fabulous. However, it is hard to pull a man out of some place he has been for 40 years, so it is kinda hard to convince my dad of that. We are trying to amp it up because of all of the amenities that go with it. It's incredible. Everything was 1000%, the grounds, the community, the staff, the place itself, the way it was set up, and how it can be set up. The view was just fabulous; it's a perfect upstate New York view. I think my dad likes it, too, but he is still grieving for his wife.
