My stepmother is currently at Birchwood Suites. I found the staff to be very helpful. The case manager, the people that man the desk at the front of the place, and the nurses, for the most part, I find them to be quite good and helpful. However, my stepmother is not so definite about that, and that's why she wants to move. She has certain complaints. One of the things she wants to do is see her own doctors, which she hasn't been able to do at Birchwood because they don't have transportation for that. But at the other place, she has been promised that she would be able to see her own doctors.
I think the apartment is good. It was an estate that was converted into apartments. As far as the upkeep goes, it's pretty good, and maintenance seems to take care of the issues. They've had some trouble with the elevators at times, but that's been corrected. So they attend to things pretty well. My stepmother hasn't participated in a whole lot of activities. She prefers to do her own thing, so to speak. She is not pleased with the food; however, she's very particular, and as a result, she resorted to buying some of her own stuff like raisin bread, for instance, or nuts that she likes to eat. She has not given rave reviews of the food there. She says there's too much pepper on it, and she can't deal with spicy stuff. She has issues with the food, but I can't confirm any of that because I have not tried the food. I haven't had a meal there.
