We chose Cascades of Sierra. They had the services that we were interested in. They also had availability. There was no waiting line to get in. The staff was very nice and very helpful. They have Independent living and assisted living. They had a single bedroom, and they had a strange one where there were two bedrooms together (that was in the memory unit). We got a two bedroom.
They have several activities, and they just did a community wide survey of other activities that people would like to add. They're grading their activities. They showed us the dining room, the exercise facilities, and some courtyards for just walking around and getting outside. We saw the crafts room, poker players, and the bar. It's close to a lot of places that those of us who are still independent go to (shopping, places to eat, or exercise places). It's not a radical change from where we are now.

My mother loves Cascades of the Sierra. There are a lot of activities. The staff is really friendly. She's real happy to be coming out of the COVID restrictions. Her apartment is about 900 square feet, so it's got kind of a great room concept. She likes that it's very spacious. It's a one-bedroom, has two bathrooms (which I don't know why because that's kind of waste of space). It's very open. They got a library, a pool, a gym, a theater, and a beauty parlor. They play poker, blackjack, beanbag baseball, Wii bowling, and bingo. The food has kind of gone downhill since Covid. I think they've had trouble keeping chefs lately, but it used to be a 5. They have independent living, assisted living, and memory care. They have buses and vans go out and take them to their doctors. Before COVID, they were taking them out to Walgreens and Costco and stuff like that. They haven't resumed that yet.

The employee at Cascades of the Sierra was very friendly. The apartment that they showed me at the facility was very nice. It had a full kitchen in it, which was very nice. I have not tried the food, but I got a copy of the menu. They work their system a little bit differently than some places do. They give you a $500 credit every month, and then they give you a list of prices of the food that you want to eat. You may eat one, two, or three meals a day, or you can fix your own meal in your own apartment because of the full kitchen, which I thought was very nice.

The Cascades of the Sierra was very nice, but a little bit more expensive than the others. It was large, there was not as much sunlight, and it was dark inside. We were looking at independent. The interior of the apartment was nice, but it was a little bit smaller than the apartments we looked at in the other place. We ate lunch there, and it was OK.

Last week my mom moved into Cascades of the Sierra. It is very nice and very modern. They have a lot of different apartment sizes and types. They have the nicest facilities with the best, modern amenities, exercise and physical therapy. The pool has a ramp in it and it has a water wheelchair for that kind of thing. They have the nicest lawn and the nicest pool. They're all designed for seniors with zero-entry tub shower areas, wide doorways, and easy access areas to parking walkers. The list of activities is so big too. There are so many different things happening everyday. The food is phenomenal and made with lots of fresh vegetables and fresh fruits. There are so many varieties. It feels like you're dining in a nice restaurant. They're also the only one that offers a diabetic nursing program. Cascades of the Sierra has great activities and probably has the most robust help in the assisted living level.

Cascades of the Sierra was a very well laid out place. It was all in one large building and not individual houses. They had large two-bedroom units with full kitchens. They seemed to have lots of activities. They had extremely friendly people. They had nice dining room and good food. We very seriously considered it.

Cascades of the Sierra is a little bit cheaper than other places, but it's a nice place. Cindy was adorable and as sweet and helpful as can be. She's French and my mom speaks fluent French, so they got along great. I don't like that if my mom goes over a certain amount for food, we get charged extra every month; I think that's a terrible idea. They have prices on their menus, which I don't like. When we were there, they said we could order whatever we want, so my husband ordered the steak and then they came back and said they didn't have it. My mom was embarrassed for us and felt that they were not telling the truth or that we were taken advantage of. My mom has been wealthy all her life and very snooty, so she loved the tablecloths and the cloth napkins. The place was beautiful, and the rooms are way nicer than others, beautiful and spacious and have their own washer and dryer built in.

Cascades of the Sierra is my top choice. The rooms were small but were like hotels almost. The place is very clean, and the food is good. I talked to one lady who said she intends to stay there. The staff who toured me around was very nice.

Cascades was a very beautiful place, but it’s out so far from anything that you have to get a car to go anywhere. They had two restaurants, gave you a budget of $500 to eat, and had a regular menu that you choose from. They had fillet mignon at $19.95, so you would literally eat up $500 in a short time, so I didn’t like the setup. The rooms were fine, and the staff that took us around was very nice. The pool was wonderful; I would have loved to stay there for the pool. They had many amenities and a bar, and the people were more active.

Cascades of the Sierra is a very beautiful place on the inside. It has a swimming pool with warm saltwater and is completely covered. The staff is excellent. The rooms are big and the whole place is well managed. Davis, the manager, runs the place with an iron fist. It's absolutely immaculate. The woodwork is nice and has a very lodge-like feeling. It's not what you think of for a senior community. It's high-class. When we were there, my husband and I liked playing cards. They also have bingo and a little golf putting area. Their exercise room is huge and has staff all day that help you with the exercise equipment and rehabilitation.

The Cascades of the Sierra is fairly new, and that was the best of any of them. It had all kinds of stuff going on. Wednesday was for bridge, and Tuesday was for pinnacle; and it went on and on with all kinds of stuff. They had very nice apartments. It not only had a full kitchen and then it had a washer and dryer in every single facility. They priced me right out of business; there is now way I could stay there. They had separate dining rooms and all that stuff, swimming pools; they got everything. If you got the money, that is the place to go.

I found a place for my mom. It's called Cascades of the Sierra. It's really close to me. My mom is independent but she still likes when I'm there all the time. I can be there at the drop of the hat, so that's why I picked that one. Also this one seems to work out okay for us. My first impression of it was that it was like a hotel or a stationary cruise ship, it's really nice. The staff seems good. Everyone remembers their residents' names, so that always makes it nice. Regarding accommodations, my mom first went into their assisted living room. It was a small one-bedroom unit. It only had a kitchenette. It did have microwave and a refrigerator and a small sink. She was very unhappy there. She then moved into a regular independent apartment. It's about 400 to 500 square feet. It's a very nicely laid out apartment. The kitchen is bigger than the condo that she moved from, so that's really nice. It has everything that you would need in an apartment. It has nice big window in the bedroom and the living room. There is a sliding glass door to go out onto a patio.

My mother will be moving into the Cascades of the Sierra this coming October. We decided on this community because it has everything. Also, my mom likes the apartment a lot. Their apartments don't smell like an old person. We went to another facility before this one and their rooms smelled like antiseptic. The staff working in Cascades is amazing. The residents living there are great. My mom can easily make friends with the independent living people and she can still eat with them even if she goes in the assisted living. Their facilities are not segregated like some other facilities I visited. I don't like that. I would definitely tell others about this place.
