We liked The Montebello on Academy a lot. We thought it was just right for us. The apartments were a good size and our furniture would fit there. I think we'd be comfortable. The menu was excellent and the food was excellent. They offer exactly what I think is the right thing. They'll choose your diet in any way you need to and you get one major meal a day, either lunch or supper, and you always get breakfast. So, having meals twice a day would be perfect for us.
Everything seemed to be in excellent condition. It was very clean. We liked how often they do exercise classes. We feel like that's very important to our health. We also have a small dog and we loved their approach to what you're allowed to do with your dog there. They have a nice dog yard. Nicer than any of the other places in town.

I'm living at The Montebello on Academy. So far, it's fantastic. I chose it because I have a sister who lives within three miles of the facility and that makes it very convenient to have a family nearby. The facility is gorgeous. The staff is fantastic, helpful, and very friendly. They have every activity you can think of. They have card games, chair yoga, exercises of all sorts, and cocktail hour. They have saunas, beauty parlors, a bar, and a beautiful restaurant. I don't know that they could be any better.

I am a current resident. My experience has been very good until recently. They are undergoing a massive outflow of staff now, and inadequate new hiring, causing services to deteriorate. Two instances: (1) A pipe burst in my A/C. I called the front desk, but it took six hours of water running down the hall before any staff showed up to fix it. (2) They are trying to reopen the dining room with only two wait staff (both new hires) for a large number of people. Yesterday (7/5), I waited 90 minutes for service. The sole staffer, who I had not met before, waited on everyone else, even all those who arrived after me, and refused to serve me until the last other people were finishing up. I guess she didn't like how I looked or something - who knows.

The model room at The Montebello on Academy was very clean, very nice, and ready to go for someone to move into it. You can go from assisted living down and you don't have to move. You've got everything there. They're very nice and make you feel at home. They have a library. The building itself was very nice.

I went on a tour at The Montebello on Academy. I got claustrophobia because the hallways are narrow. It was fine, although it seemed kind of old. The person who gave me the tour was very friendly and did a good job. The rooms looked fine, but I'm coming from an 1,800-square-foot house, and to move into a 700-square-foot apartment is a daunting task. But then again, all the apartments are small as far as I'm concerned. Other than the hallways, it is a very nice place. It looked fine with nothing really exciting.

The Montebello on Academy had a room that was being completely remodeled, which would have been very nice. I said I'd be interested in getting that room, and they said OK. I kept in touch with them, but one day, I got a call from the salesperson that I have been doing business with and she said they gave them that room. They told me I could get the room next to it, so I went over to look at it, but it had to be completely remodeled. The saleswoman said that it would look like the other one, to which I said OK, and she asked for a deposit for it. I said I wanted to see what the room looks like, but she said if I wanted to make sure I get the room, I need to give a deposit. I gave them a check for $3,250, but I was upset that they gave away the room that they promised, so I wanted to ask for my money back. I called them and told them to send it back, and the saleswoman said they're only going to send me back half. I asked her what she was talking about, and she said it's the way it works. I said nobody told me a thing about it, and its not in any of the papers I signed. My daughter called them and had a real conversation with them, and finally the saleswoman said they'll return the money. That was a week ago, and I still don't have my $3250 back. It's been a disgrace. They lied to me and now they're holding up my money. It's a terrible way to act. I would not recommend them to anybody after what they had done.

My parents are in The Montebello on Academy. It was exactly what we were looking for. It is independent living, and they have an apartment. They have limos and vans, they take them shopping and trips, and they have exercise classes. I found everyone helpful. What impressed me is they knew all the residents by name.

The Montebello is a lovely facility, but it is quite expensive. The reason we didn’t choose it was because we didn’t like the transportation policy and what they had to offer. The apartments wasn’t as nice as the facility my mom is in, and my mother needed something to stay right away.

The one that we really liked was Montebello and I think that's the most expensive one in town. Considering that my sister has a health issue, it had the possibility that, if we lived there and she needed more care than I could give her, she could move down to another section of the building. Everybody was so friendly, and they had special things going on. The atmosphere was lovely, and we liked their several different rooms. There were a lot of cozy places that you could just sit by yourself if you wanted or participate with other people. It was very clean, and there was a community room on the third floor with a glass wall that we absolutely adored because it looked out to the mountains. They invited us for a meal, but we didn't eat there. However, we saw the dining room, and it was very cozy. If you don't want to eat there, you could just order your meal and eat it in your apartment.

We moved to The Montebello on Academy last December. We chose it because of its location. It's a three-story building built back in the late 80's. It is well maintained and it’s very comfortable and that's all we needed. The staff seemed fine. We have no problems with that all. The apartment that we have is very nice – two bedroom, two bath, a living room, and a kitchen. They have all kinds of activities that is going on daily like trips and they provide transportation to the doctors and shopping centers.
