Since management changed from Quakerly influenced to BriteSpire, formerly PHI, quality of life and services have declined drastically. At West, our dining room has been relocated to Guilford campus a mile away. We now have a cold simulated 5 Star restaurant with a waiting lounge and maitre D serving the cheapest vegetables available and fake meats. Sandwiches have also been moved to the Guilford campus. For the dining room or a sandwich, you go in rain, cold or snow to Guilford. Very inconvenient for handicapped residents with walkers or scooters. It is more a commercial apartment enterprise versus an elderly retirement home concerned with the needs of the elderly and handicapped,

My father and I took a tour of Friends Homes at Guilford two years ago. The place takes up quite a few blocks, so it's very big. The staff was very professional. It's a very expensive place. They've got their marketing down pretty well, but it's not affordable. We thought the food was good. The facility was very nice and newly remodeled, and it looked like it was very up-to-date as far as the decor. It didn't look old-fashioned. It looked like it was keeping up with the times. It had a nice library, beautiful grounds, and the apartments themselves were very nice.

My wife was in Friends Homes before she passed away, and I liked the place very much. However, they didn't have covered parking, which is the only thing I didn't like about them. The people are very nice, and you can move into independent living and move up to full care. They have everything in terms of amenities, and the food was very good. The workers are also pretty good.

I just felt more comfortable at Friends Homes with the people that I met and with the general layout which would involve less walking and getting to meals. The rooms were a little larger than some of the other studio apartments I've seen in other facilities. The whole place is not that big. It is not too far from my home, family and friends. It had a more relaxed atmosphere and it was more affordable.
