We toured The Pillars of Shorewood Landing, and we love the location. It's only within two miles of where we live, so that was key. It's less than five years old, so it's on the newer side. We're looking at independent, the one-bedroom with the washer and dryer inside. We loved the kitchen, what it had. We also like the common area, and I just love that it's not too big. It was still kind of small, and that's really important not to have it too big that you have so many people there. I love that it's independent and assisted mixed in. It wasn't like one side was assisted and on one side was independent, they had everybody kind of living among themselves. You didn't know who was getting assisted, and who was independent, which is kind of nice. The person who's living there, they're not being singled out. It was very nice. The dining hall was awesome. There was a salon that we really liked; they have a barber and a hair person. They also had somebody in there for doing nails, both feet and hands. They also had a common area for meeting, which turns into a movie theater, which was nice. The other one had an outdoor patio for being outside. The staff member was excellent; she's been calling me periodically just to see how things are going. We've got a kind of a relationship going, and it's just a matter of when the time is right. That's the place that we would like. We only saw the menu; we never had a chance to really sit down and dine there. It's wonderful too. I like how it's laid out with all the common areas in the middle, and then the rooms go around it so you never feel like you're separated.

Family living close by
The Pillars has been an outstanding place for my parents. The move from their home was as stress free as possible, thanks to the thoughtful and experienced staff. The apartment was immaculate and the cleaning service has taken good care of them. My parents enjoy their own space, their balcony, yet feel connected to a community of people they have enjoyed meeting. When Covid hit, the staff was diligent in caring for the residents as well as the staff. As I care for my senior family members, there is a lot to do. The Director and the Staff at The Pillars took the stress of their daily safety off our shoulders by having plans in place, and keeping communications open so family and residents all know what was going on. This gives the family time to take care of other needs for their care. The building is convenient to get to. the area has grocery stores, pharmacy, restaurants, and other shops nearby. Traffic has never been an issue. The Pillars staff has truly have become part of the team for caring with grace and respect. The experience they have has been comforting as our family deals with situations and changes. We truly value their advice. The programs they have address the different times in senior life. My parents are happy, safe, and feel part of a community. Thank you, Griffin and the staff at The Pillars.
