We have chosen Orchard Path. When we first walked in, there was a far window in a huge room that was all glass. It overlooked a lake. We like nature, and it had a walking and biking path around that lake, and I would be capable of walking around that, so that was nice. Plus the fact that it had an opening. I inquired about their independent living, but you can remain in the independent home when you require assisted living. They have rooms that are just definitely assisted living, but they don't have them available, and I don't need assistance right now. Appliances are all included. There were white appliances in the apartment we're going to get, and they will change them out to stainless steel. Some people prefer white, and some people prefer stainless steel, and since they're going to be furnishing 50 new ones, we can choose to have stainless steel, so they'll do that before we move in. They have a microwave, range, refrigerator with a bottom freezer, dishwasher, and a washer and dryer included in the apartment. The only thing that I didn't care for is that the only wall in the living room has a fireplace on it, so it's going to be difficult to use the furniture that I have there.
The person who toured me around was very knowledgeable. Anything we asked, he knew, and he wasn't going to have to look it up. Continental breakfast comes with the rent. Then there are menus for the other meals, and they were very reasonably priced compared to some places. They not only have a dining room, but they also have a bistro where you can pick up cold sandwiches and that sort of thing almost all day long.

We visited Orchard Path, a Presbyterian Homes community. The area is very nice, it's located right on a lake, and the facility is almost new. They're building a new wing right now, and I guess that helped us with the thinking that it was a pretty nice place. They have independent, assisted living, and memory care. This is our favorite one, from the ones we have seen. They have residents except for the new wing that they're building that's opening up in October of this year.
They have eating facilities there, and free breakfast every day. There are lots of activities too. They were quite expensive. With independent living and assisted living, you would stay in the same apartment, I believe. With memory care, you would have to move into another area in the community.

I went to Orchard Path. The only interaction we've had so far with the staff is the housing coordinator. They're very accommodating, very interested in making sure they know what you're looking for, and they want to do what they can to help you achieve that. They gave us a menu, but we didn't have any food. There are a variety of choices. They also said people have the option of taking their food back to their apartments right now during COVID. The one-bedroom seems pretty small to me, but this facility is only three or four years old, so it is very well kept. They allow you to make some personal design choices, like if you want to paint your unit, you could pick colors and paint it according to your liking, or if you want to put curtains up or things like that, they try to make it so that it feels more like home, which I thought is nice. We also toured a one-bedroom with a den; it had a little more room obviously, and that was the one I like over the two that we saw.
