McBrite Manor has everything available that my mother-in-law wanted, except very long hallways on an incline. My husband and I liked it because there were little groups of people that were in little sections of the hallways just talking and conversing and having a good time. For my mother-in-law, it seemed like a long way away to eat for a 93-year-old using a walker. She was just overwhelmed with the hallways. The staff was wonderful and very nice. During the visit, there were little groups of people by themselves playing cards and having social time with a man playing a guitar; there were quite a few people in that room enjoying the music. There was a little area with library books and things to read. I thought it was kind of old-fashioned and warm and cozy. The only thing my husband and I thought could be better was that it could be a little brighter because it seemed dark. It wasn't bright and sunny everywhere. It looked clean. Everybody seemed happy and really friendly, and they said hello. The room was fine.

I am currently staying at McBrite Manor, and I think it is excellent. It is more like a home. I have one room and it didn't have any bedroom, but it fits all of my belongings. Everything is fine and I think they have a very good work attitude including the dining staff, the workings that makes your bed and stuff. They are all very nice. The food is very good and we have several different choices. The dining room and the sitting arrangement are fine and they have plenty of help to serve the food. They have plenty of things for people to do like bingo, but I don’t go to them because I go out and I am usually gone when they do that.

I visited people who live in McBrite Manor. It has a separate place for people who are a little bit handicapped. The place was more reasonable. I think it was a thousand dollars a month. That's for a 1-bedroom. The employees were very friendly. They usually would come make your beds at 8 o'clock or so, but if you told them that you didn't get up until 10, they'd wait and come then. They tried to make themselves available to you when you needed them. They had all your meals. The one thing that I didn't like about that place is I didn't like the food. They didn't have any imagination, and it was like it came from Gordon's Food Service or Sam's Club. They had activities for the women. They had a gym. They had several pieces of equipment that you could exercise on. They had entertainment. They had small bands come in. There's one band, and it plays music for people our age, because I don't like music from this era, and most of the people sing along. Then they also have people come in and give talks on how to handle your retirement and things like that.

Our parent lived at McBrite 5 years. Many changes of late, more focus on $$$ instead of residents, atmosphere eroding, complaints about food. Our parent needed to move to AL unexpectedly but there was no consideration given for food not consumed nor for emptying the apartment 3 weeks early. Half of $1000. deposit was retained to repair a small issue with closet door. The most outstanding attribute for McBrite is the housekeeping staff who are excellent, going above and beyond. The clerical staff was always nice, willing to help elders.

My sister-in-law officially moved into McBrite Manor on June 1st. It's actually a gorgeous place. We were surprised with all that she got. She's got everything that she needs with her room. The meals are served, they are clean, and the staff do many things. I've not seen lots of other places, but I've gone to enough and I find this facility amazing. Being able to get hold of office personnel is maybe the only thing they need to improve on. There were just a couple of times I tried to reach them; it may have been because she was new and they have moved in a lot of people at the same time. I like to be able to call and get explanations quicker from them, but I know there's an explanation and it's been basically not a big problem.
