We went to see the Lakeside at Mallard Landing by Discovery Senior Living in Salisbury. We saw their independent living and it's like a resort there. It has multiple units that are all interconnected via a sort of a breezeway so that you can go from one building to another without having to go outside. I thought that was a plus. They have several dining facilities and they are multi-level. It's very scenic, they're in an area that runs parallel to a pond with lots of trees so it's very appealing. It is sort of analogous to a resort type of environment. It's very well-maintained and professionally run. It had all the bells and whistles but it just was not the type of housing that my mother prefers.

Lakeside At Mallard Landing had everything we wanted. The rooms were very roomy. They had meals for noon and dinner from Monday through Friday and weekends at noon. They had trips, they had available transportation for a fee, and they had housekeeping for a fee. They had a gym, a pub that they pay for, and a game room.

The people at Lakeside at Mallard Landing were very kind and very helpful. It's a bit costly, but it's a wonderful facility. I toured both the memory care and the assisted living. They had several different floor plans, and the rooms were very nice. They had a nice activity calendar. The dining area was very nice, and they had snacks and popcorn machine available. It's a phenomenal place.

Lakeside at Mallard Landing looks beautiful, and the staff is overwhelmingly nice, supportive, and helpful. The residents themselves are delightful. I like that place so much that I would live there myself if I could. It's more like living in a fancy hotel, it's just so nice. It's a very large community and they have independent living homes, independent living apartments, and they have assisted living buildings with apartments. The apartments are all little efficiency units and they're all very well-designed. They don't have any clinical feel at all. When you go in into the building they have really nice staff. And they have everything you could want, they have a library, a movie room, and places for the residents to sit and do things together and socialize. They also have a chapel, a hair salon, and it's really friendly. When I walk in the door I saw half a dozen gentleman playing poker. You'd feel at home there. The staff is fantastic, every single one of them. The food looks really good, they have a chef that prepares the food, and you get to sit down and pick off a menu.

Mallard Landing Retirement just seemed to be too large -- building and everything -- and I think my mother with dementia would have gotten lost or confused over there. They had everything from senior living to assisted living to the Alzheimer's unit, but it was very large and I just didn't think it would be a fit. We were able to see a monthly calendar and the whole 9 yards of what activities they have going on. They have three 3 meals a day and they also have snacks in the morning and the afternoon. They were able to answer every question that I had.
