We were at Savannah Square. We started with independent living, and then my wife had to have assistance with getting a bath and then medications. They will handle the medications and of course they offer you a room. One of the best things was the space, which was too much for us, and of course, the option of eating in the room or the dining room. We were there when COVID came up. They had planned activities, which were helpful. Another thing is we're a couple and that's very unusual, it appears. We had a lot of areaa to walk around in and that makes a lot of difference.
They did the best they could, but a lot of things are easier and better done by a family member, particularly a spouse if you're both together. We both worked in health care. She is a radiologic technologist and I'm a respiratory therapist, so we had more experience with what she needs. All the staff made a genuine effort, and they were all friendly when you talk to them.
I wouldn't give them much for the meals, but when we were there, the COVID thing was raging, and they were no longer preparing meals the usual way. They were brought to us either in our room or it was separate six feet between all the people and in a Styrofoam tray with the food all packed in it. Even if the food was reasonably well, it's just eating out of plastic.
Cleanliness was reasonable; it was good. Clothes were picked up and delivered back to you. They came in and they mopped. The floors were a little disappointing. They had one lady that handled the activities, and she was very entertaining and very energetic. Mostly it was bingo, games, and chair aerobics. The spaces were not designed for training or providing an exercise room as other places had. The building's design was not laid out specifically for that. They were in a room that was kind of crowded sometimes, but everybody enjoyed it thoroughly.

We toured Savannah Square. The atmosphere was very alive, and people were interacting, and that was one of the things I liked about it. The living area was roomy and very beautiful. The place was very well-kept. I was especially delighted that they had a security guard and a gate because this is kind of in downtown Savannah. I felt that they were really safe because of their security. The atmosphere and the people living there were happy because I went there to watch and interacted with a few residents. They were very happy, they all seemed to know each other, and they were talking. It wasn't a place to go and die; it was a place to go and live. The place was very well appointed. They got a menu for that week, and they have what they call an all-the-time menu that is available in case you don't want what they're cooking. What I was impressed by was that the staff members that I saw were speaking to the residents and there were a great many of them, and they seem to know all their names, so there was personal interaction. I'm very impressed with that. I'm taking my dad there hoping he'll go. That's where I want him to be. I think he'll live longer if he lives in this environment. It was just a truly positive experience.

My mother used to live in Savannah Square and it was very nice, the people were very accommodating, and it was very secure. The food was well-cooked, it wasn't bland and it was very flavorful. They have very nice grounds to walk around on. The dining room was done very nicely too. She was at the independent living. The communication was very good. From what I saw, it was very well-maintained.

We toured Savannah Square and the location is good for our family. They have nice facilities, and they do lots of activities. We would like the little cottage that they have.
We liked the fact that they have progressive care there. The staff was very knowledgeable and very nice. Of course, there was COVID, so there was a lot she could not show us because it was kind of shut down, but she was very friendly.
They also have pools.

My mother has lived at Savannah Square for more than 13 years and we have been so happy with her community. The staff is so pleasant and so helpful. She just recently made a transition from independent living into assisted living and I can’t say enough about how easy the staff made this very difficult time. Someone helped us every step of the way. My mother was received into assisted living with warmth and caring professionals who knew just what to say and do with her dementia. The transition could have not been more seamless.

My visit at Savannah Square was excellent. I was received very cordially, I was shown several options, and I could not have been treated any nicer. It was beautiful, the dining area looked beautiful, it had tablecloths and cloth napkins, comfortable chairs, and it looked like a more formal setting. Im going into independent living, but I looked at both independent and assisted living.

I visited Savannah Square. It was very neat, clean, and very large. The staff was very friendly. They had bingo, art, crafts, tours, shopping sprees, they had different things. When I went into the main entrance, it was almost like going into a hotel. It did not feel like going into a home, and the main entrance was too quiet.

Savannah Square did have cottages; which were very beautiful. However, they did not have garages. You had to park in the parking lot, and the one that was available was quite a distance from the main facility where she would be eating her meals. She would have had to drive up there every time she ate. The people were wonderful. I had no complaints about it other than the fact that mom wanted a garage. It is a gated facility also. If you're not living in a cottage very few of the facilities have a full kitchen. They have a sink, refrigerator, microwave, but they do not have stoves. The menu was good. They had a full activity schedule everyday.

Savannah Square is probably where we're going. When we went to visit, we went to independent living but also viewed assisted living. It was great, the staff was great, and it had more of what we were looking for due to my mother progressing into her dementia. Everything was on-site: one facility, all in one place. In independent living, the apartments were really good because they had separate bungalows, so you don't have to use elevators. We viewed assisted living, which she's not to that point yet, but everything was the same, except that the rooms didn't have the fully equipped kitchen. We went on a Friday when they were having a bar night or cocktail hour with music playing. We actually ate in the restaurant, and the food was really good. It seemed more suitable to our needs. It's more expensive, but had everything we were looking for at that particular time and still has what we'll need as time goes on. It looked like a great place. We took my mother and asked her what she thought. She said that she could see herself living there.

Savannah Square was just very nicely appointed. They were very professional and, provided a lot of feedback, and at this point, we are on their waiting list and waiting for my mother to come down. They certainly do have activities. They have an exercise room right there and a limousine service to different areas to assist with shopping or going to different activities off the property. They have restaurant style dining with three meals a day, they have a happy hour, and then they have all different activities. And they have two styles of rooms; they have rooms either in the building or they have like small apartments outside of the building.

My friends are going to live in Savannah Square. The room is a 2-bedroom, about 1100 sq.ft. to 1200 sq. ft. I would say that it may have a little age on it; it’s not modern and new. It is very clean and the people that handled our tour were very good. Our friends took their son and daughter-in-law there for dinner as their guests and they loved it. What they charge is fantastic for all the meals and the whole thing. I think it’s one hell of a deal.

We had a great tour of both facilities today. Both have positive attributes and either would be a good choice for my parents. The appealing items about each:
Savannah Square- wooded location with private balconies in the independent living area. Beautiful building with meals in the dining area. The breakfast is continental and lunch and dinner are full meals. No medical help in this building as it is independent living. The downside is that their long term care policies would not pay there. They would have to go to the assisted living building which we did not like nearly as well. The transportation options appear to be a little limited. They do have many activities and trips, but with my parents limited mobility, they would not be able to do much of this. As my parents health declined and they needed more care we would have to move them yet again. Also, the fact that they would not be reimbursed with their long term care policies is a big problem.

I like Savannah Square more than the other one I visited. This place is set back off the road in a quiet tree lodge area, and you wouldn't know there was a community for independent living there. It is a very beautiful facility. It is a little bit more classy and high end. They have a little bar area for drinks. They also have family area should you have family coming in. I was very impressed with their accommodations. One part of the facility is an apartment building. They showed me their studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. They are all beautiful. There are plenty of rooms inside and you can decorate your own apartment. They also have a pull cord in the bathroom just in case of emergency. In every floor, there is a laundry facility for their residents. Service is also excellent in this community. They take care of everything for you. They can take you to your doctor's appointments, to the store or wherever you want to go. You just have to let them know ahead of time that you would need transportation. I would definitely recommend this place. You wouldn't have to worry about anything if you put your loved ones here.
