I'm staying at The Cove at Tavares Village. I am in an independent living villa. The property has 62 independent living villas, then there's the big building that has assisted living and memory care and the dining facility. We're about six minutes from downtown Tavares out in the country on an elevated piece of property. It's hilly, but it's beautiful. As you come in the front entrance, there's a big sign bragging about how we have been deficiency free for three years from inspection.
The director holds two hats. She is the administrator of the whole outfit, and she's also the head nurse. She does a marvelous job. The care that my wife got here was amazing. Unbelievably amazing. It's not gated or anything like that. There are like four streets within the community. It's spread out quite nicely. We have a very nicely appointed clubhouse. Eighty feet from my door is the full workout room. There's also a rehab outfit in that building for helping people who need rehab rehabilitation.
The food is excellent. The food services guy does miracles. I've never heard anybody ever complain about the food. If I wanted $7 a meal, they'll deliver it, and you can't beat that. The staff is friendly and very professional, above and beyond. I truly don't know how they do it. I took care of my wife, and it was 2014 when she was diagnosed and that's when we moved here. I was able to keep her safe at the villa till August of 2019, and then my skill set just wasn't up to it anymore, and that's when she went into care. The care she got was marvelous.
I don't particularly participate in activities, but Amy, the director of activities, has got something going always. Plus, they have transportation for those who don't drive any longer. They take you to doctor's appointments, they go to Publix once a week and to Winn-Dixie once a week, and they take you banking if you need to go banking. They all have to be scheduled naturally.

I have moved into The Cove at Tavares Village. I've only been here a day, and I think it'll be fine. I am now in a 1- bedroom-1-bath with a living room, a kitchen, a dining room area, a bathroom, and washer and dryer. I met the gentleman that lives across the street, and that's the only person I've met so far other than the marketing director. It's a pretty place. It's very quiet, which is kind of what I wanted.
I'm having a problem with the dryer. It's not being taken care of properly, and I'm not sure how it's going to dry my sheets that I'd like to sleep on. It's kind of frustrating because I have to call somebody at the front desk or something to put me on a list for the maintenance man to come and tell me how to operate this. I'm a little frustrated, but not enough to walk out the door and say, I don't want to live here.
We have a pool, and they have activities. I haven't figured out that much yet. We're right next to the clubhouse, and that's where they do a lot of their crafts. The community is kept up extremely well. They mow the grass. There's lots of trees, and it's quiet. They try to keep some semblance of bushes or plants outside our units, and I think that's because we're renting. I don't have a problem with the whole outfit. I just have a problem with my dryer right now.
The marketing director was right on the ball. She knew a lot. She was very organized. She's very knowledgeable about the area, and she goes above and beyond in whatever she's doing to help us get in. She is extremely informative and extremely intelligent about the place. She loves the place. She loves the people here, and she loves the staff. She is wonderful. I have known about this place for a long time. It has not deteriorated. It seems to be like it was when I was looking years ago, like 5 to 9 years ago when my husband died. I'm staying here because they have assisted living on the campus. If I have to go somewhere, I'll go there instead of some nursing home.

I am living in The Cove at Tavares Village. There are a lot of things here that are optional, like if you want to swim, or go to the gym. They have a library and I'm happy with it. I am in a brand new unit, I have my own garage, and it's beautiful inside. They have a cafeteria. They have an activity at least once a month, you can take your own transportation, or board a bus, and they take you to restaurants, to doctors' visits, and we have a visiting nurse coming in.
