I toured Bonaventure of Thornton. It was nicer, such as the parking lot was recently paved and had plenty of parking. Very close to shopping. Extremely large rooms, at least in the two- bedroom category. We saw two, a small, and a large two-bedroom. They were both very generous. I didn't expect a walk-in closet. I didn't expect to see the big bathrooms. It was over a thousand square feet. So it was just very generous. And because it's an independent living, there was a range, and a full-size refrigerator, which I don't think is typical in assisted living. So there was plenty of light, and to my surprise, the carpeting is utterly replaced when a resident moves out before a new one moves in, and new paint is applied to the walls. And then I found out, there's a community charge, a one-time $5,000 charge, and that's what that covers. On the upside, you get a new unit for every resident. On the downside, that's a hefty fee. But it was very professionally run. They were expecting us. We had a very nice tour by Brook. They had even more amenities and choices, such as the hair salon that is open three days a week. They had a large range of activities, and as you would expect they had a nicer theater area for movies, including a standing popcorn machine. Just kind of more upscale. But I think the prices reflect that upscaleness. Friendly staff and I would say competent. They seemed very competent, it was just a one-hour tour, but that was my impression. Very clean. They would not let us look at the kitchen at all. And the reason is regulations. And I thought that was a good thing. So we enjoyed the tour. There was no delineation between independent living and assisted living in the fact that one wing, one aisle was assisted, and the other was independent, but you couldn't tell the difference. And I thought that was nice. You want people to mix. I saw a sample of the food. It wasn't during meal time, but they had a sample in the window for that day and I thought that was nice.

My wife and I are living in Bonaventure of Thornton independent living and I don't like this place at all. We've been looking but we can't find anything more affordable than this. We don't like it here because we've only had the housekeeping clean our room twice in the last six weeks. The food, we never know when we're going to get them. My microwave right now is out and it's been out 3 different times. There's just nothing but a lot of problems here and we've been here for two years. The food itself isn't bad, it's the time that you get it here. This is the 3rd chef that they've had since we've been here and you just don't know what time you're going to get your food. You will eventually get it but you don't know when. I have to go down and get it. We don't eat in the cafeteria because my wife is sort of handicapped so I have to go get our food and bring it to the room and I never know when it's going to be ready. They have activities but we don't participate in them because of my wife's condition. They have them sometimes and sometimes they don't. It depends on the help that they have. The maintenance man that they have also worked in the kitchen. He's a cook, he's a waitress, and he also cleans the rooms. Everybody has to do everything they can and they just don't have enough people to go around. The building itself is okay. The only problem we have with the room we're in is that they have one bedroom without air conditioning and one bedroom with air conditioning and it just doesn't make sense at all. They just raised our rent again. Our rent was $5134 and we got a letter just yesterday telling us that they're raising our rent another $174 a month so it's going to be $5300 starting February. February is when we will start our third year here. We don't get our money's worth at all. We should just be paying about $3000 a month, maybe a little more with the food, but no way we should be paying $5300 for what we get. We've checked, we went looking for an apartment just last week and we can get an apartment for $2100, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, which is what we have here.
