My overall experience of touring Springwood Retirement Campus' independent living in Arvada was very good. It was well-kept, clean, and updated. The people seemed very nice. Cindy, who worked with me, was excellent too. We toured their cottages and the apartments, and they're very nice.

We liked Springwood Retirement Campus. The independent facilities were nice, and all the rooms were nice. They even had little cottages as an option. The whole facility itself seemed nice. The director was wonderful and seemed very invested in all of her residents. It's all well kept and some of the rooms overlook the lake. It's nice to know that the lake is there for the residents to walk around, and it's just been a nice, convenient area of town. The dining room seemed very nice and it's part of the independent living package if they move into the facility there. It's got high ceilings and it's near the courtyard, so it has natural light coming in. It just seemed like a nicely appointed space. It's an older building, but it doesn't look bad. They offer pretty much everything. There's transportation, games, and activities for people to do there, movies to watch, and athletic things they can do. It seems like a lot. I was impressed.

I highly recommend Springwood because of its homey atmosphere, and it's very clean. People who live there seem to really like it. I've had my mother and my aunt there, they were both very happy there, and the meals were excellent. It's close to everything. They take you on trips, they take you shopping, and they take you for doctors' appointments. The grounds are very well taken care of, it's just a nice place, and it's right in the middle of our radar, you might say. The rooms are very clean and had a very nice colorization. They're average, they're not really small, but they're not really big. The one-bedroom is ample, and not crowded. The studios are like a big living room with a twin bed on the other side of the room. They have little kitchens, and they have meals there. They do not have a pool, and they mainly take people on trips. They have a library, they have meals, they have games, and they plan things every week. Outside speakers or outside individuals come in sometimes, and there's performances or talks; they try to keep people engaged. The staff is very courteous, and very compassionate. They clean the apartment well, and the servers in the cafeteria are very nice. I have no complaints, and the people that I know that are there have no complaints. They have a beautiful area to walk around, they have a lake where you can walk around, and like I said, it's close to the shopping area. You can have your car, and you can have a small pet. They try to have meetings for the residents to voice their opinions, and improve on things, I think that's very nice. They have a chef on duty that's been there for years, he does his best to make the meals wonderful, and gives you choices. Once a week, you get a list of meals that are offered, and you can choose from the options. If you don't like what's on the menu, there are other options. They do everything to please their residents, and they also are family owned. They're not a big corporation, which is nice.

I live in Springwood now and I am at the part where they call The Cottages, but I call them patio homes. It's their independent living houses, but the main thing I have against it are the really long halls with the apartments on each side. To me, it seems kind of claustrophobic. I like it here and I like all my neighbors. I'm in a little cul-de-sac, so I'm not over in the big building, but it's pretty and decorated very nice. Some of the apartments are really, really pretty, depending on what they have. They have lots and lots of activities. They do cards, bingo, and everything you want to do, like movies, crafts, three kinds of exercise classes, and then you can walk in the paths around here. It's a nice place. I don't deal with the staff because I live up here by myself, but they have maintenance, and they are very good about coming out if you have to call them to shovel the snow or take the trash from the curb. They also have a huge dining room. Over here in the cottages we get two free meals a week, and it's usually very good, otherwise we cook our own. They have two buses and some SUVs that they use for transportation when they go out for lunch in various places, go and visit the Arvada center for the Arts, or see The Rockets games. They do that if they want to, and I think they charge a small fee of $5 for that.

Springwood had apartments, condos, and small homes, plus a library and a restaurant. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They had games nights. The grounds were beautiful, and it's a neighborhood setting so it's very nice. You feel like you're part of a community.

Springwood's rooms were nice and clean but also dated and small. There were shopping trips, bingo, game nights, card-making, and periodic trips to Black Hawk for those who liked to gamble. There was also transportation to local medical doctors. Residents could hire private help if they needed a day of respite care or something like that. The dining area was very nice and clean. The facility had an older setting, but there was nothing wrong with that. The residents were more high-maintenance because of the area we were in. The place was nice enough, though, and I would consider living there.

I got a wonderful impression of Springwood, but they have a year-long waiting list that requires a down payment just to get on the list. I only met a couple of people, but I was impressed with them.

The apartment in Springwood was all one big room; there is a living room, dining room, and den in different parts. There is no wall between the living room and dining room. They had a van, and they take them out for scenic drives into the mountains. They had gone to the butterfly pavilion not too long ago.

I visited Springwood Retirement Community. It was nice facility. They staff were accommodating. They have two wings of common room and each wing had their own dining room where they can order food off of their menu.

Springwood Retirement Community seemed to have nice variety of activities for every kind of mental state of the clients living there. Everything was very clean. I really like the units; they are nice and got a lot of storage space. I really like the location because it's just walking distance to the grocery store. The staff are great. You can tell that they enjoy their work.

My children know somebody who's in that area and they thought highly of this facility. That's how I got a reference to Springwood Retirement Community. It is a retirement campus. It has three levels: they have fountain apartments for senior living and you can take advantage of their grounds and activities, there's the springwood apartment that is for assisted living, then they have a third apartment for people who need medical help. It's a very nice place. Their fees seem to be normal and affordable. They also have small, duplex-like cottages that they also rent out. There's a restaurant that serves two meals a day, lunch and evening meal. A meal a week free is given, while the evening costs $5 which is dirt cheap and it's more like a lunch and the menu is impressive. They also have transportation if you want to go to a doctor. They also take groups of people if they don't have transportation to places like Wal-Mart, mall or something like that. They have all kinds of activities like bingo, bridge, etc. If you really want to know why I chose this place it's because first, I like the place; second, I have two children living near the area and the location was convenient for me; and third, it is within three blocks of two grocery stores. I think for me, it's about as good of a choice as I could make.

Springwood offers assisted living, memory care, independent living, duplexes, and apartments. It's a huge campus, with different buildings on the campus. I know it both from professional tours and a personal tour I took for a family member. Pros: - Park-like feel, with lots of trees and walking paths in an older, established community. - Easily accessible, with good parking. - Well-established activities program - Facility has a homey feel - Direct care staff is good, attentive, with low turnover - Ratio of care staff to residents is adequate Cons: - The facility is older, outdated. - The rooms are average in size and not recently renovated. - The campus can be hard to navigate; it's hard for visitors to figure out where to go. - Food is average. - The residents who don't go to activities tend to isolate in their rooms (there's not a lot of 1:1 time).
