I liked that Atria Walnut Creek had a great feeling of warmth. I noticed that the person who took us about spoke to all of the residents. We stayed and had a meal there, and it was very good. And the staff were very helpful, they were very nice. The grounds were somewhat limited in terms of outdoor space. The facility also had an elevator that had been out for several weeks. There were other elevators in the building, but this was kind of the main one closest to the dining area, and evidently, it had been an ongoing thing because residents were complaining. I was looking at a one-bedroom, it was spacious. The ones I got to see did face an open space like a side of the hill where you weren't looking at other houses or other things. It was quite pleasant, and I could see myself being comfortable there.

Atria Walnut Creek was very nice. It certainly was a good possibility for us. It's one of those places where when your status changes, your room stays the same. Seemed like they had all the services that one might need there. So, I thought it was good. The rooms looked nice. We looked at a large one-bedroom and it was adequate. They have cafeterias, the meals are included, and they have PT available.

I went to Atria Walnut Creek. They combined their assisted living and their independent living. You don't have to move if you go in as independent. It has access to assisted living care, and you don't have to move out of the apartment. I saw the facilities, I was able to go and visit the rooms, and I was able to go into various areas of the facility that are accessible. As far as very specific to assisted living, that would be very difficult to go and assert other than what the staff told me. They were very friendly, very personable, cheerful, and the interaction with the residents was on a first name basis, so that was great. I was able to go into the dining areas, but I was not able to try the food. There was a standard menu posted on the outside for the bistro, but not their standard menu for what they were serving that day. The bistro, I guess, is what they offer all the time. Some of the activities are pre-COVID, some of it is current COVID times. They've got bingo, barbecue, and exercise classes. They have a fireplace, a fitness room, an outdoor fountain, a library, and a movie theater. Some of these things are not used right now, but they have the ability once they open up again. They have music, access to pet therapy, picnic tables, and various activity programs, but again they don't have those now.

My mom likes Atria. Everything checked out and so I moved her in there. I got her in a studio apartment. We are happy with where my mom is now. What really made the difference was the director of this facility. During our visit, I told this person that my mom was scared of moving in because she was always with her family. What she did was she actually got down on her knees, took my mom's hands in hers, looked her in the eyes and said, "Well, we're your extended family. Everybody here is your extended family." She was so sincere in saying that, and it is true because when my mom moved in, everybody knew her name. They made it to a point to introduce themselves to her the first week, so she would feel very much at home, which is surprising because my mom is not that outgoing. I think their director has people-sense, she knows people and remembers their names. She is just terrific. All those people working there seem to like what they are doing and they are upfront and very easy to talk to. Their dining room is a big place and my mom doesn't know anybody there and was afraid to eat by herself. So the one in charge of their dining room, put my mom at a table with four other ladies that she thought would match her and that worked great because instantly my mom felt that she belonged to that group.
