I went to see Bridgepoint at Los Altos, which is a totally different type of place. It's not in good condition, and the rooms are very small. It's a very different atmosphere, and it's not elegant. I think the activity there is feeding you. You go down to breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are no reservations. You just mingle. I think it's an older group and a less affluent group. You still pay the high cost of care, and it isn't much different than all the other places. It's a monthly thing you put down. It is a hundred dollars down to put you on the list, but you get that back. You're only paying monthly. You go from regular living to assisted living; then I think beyond that, you'd have to go someplace else if you had memory issues or anything. I toured the independent living, and the young man there was delightful. The place is not divided though, and you don't change rooms for all these cares. The care comes to your room. It's not at all like a hotel. You don't make reservations for dinner and anything. It might meet my temporary needs better than the others, but it isn't a five-star in terms of anything like beauty or size of rooms. I had a friend there. She and her husband moved in for a month. She said it has wonderful food. It just seemed like an older group. Her husband couldn't find anyone to talk to because the residents were so old, and they both like going out. You don't have to put any money down. It can go from $7,000 to maybe even up to $12,000 a month, depending on how much care you need. That is sort of in line with other places. You wouldn't get a nice room and you wouldn't have a hotel experience, but it seemed like a friendlier place when I walked in. More people were moving around and talking to each other. I don't know about the activities, but it seems like more people were interacting there because they all had to come down to meals. All three meals were provided. I think if somebody needed a temporary place and were going somewhere else, it wouldn't be a bad place.

The people at Bridge Point didn't seem as engaged with each other as other places. I believe they allow a support pet. They have gorgeous gardens, if you are into gardening. They also have some raised beds that the community members can garden in. They have incredible roses and citrus gardens and nice lawn around. They lack a little bit of energy in the general population in the building; just as an observation. The most interesting thing about all of this was understanding the feel of each place when you walked in.

BridgePoint at Los Altos is very good. The staff is good and I'm very satisfied. We have a 1-bedroom apartment and they also have 2-bedroom and studio apartments. They have many activities like exercises and movie nights. They provide three meals a day, and the food is great. The price is a little bit high though.

When I walked through the patio of BridgePoint at Los Altos, there were a number of people just sitting and dozing in their wheelchairs. That was really depressing. I saw a room, it's a little smaller than the room from another community I visited. There was a range of prices and this room was the lower price, but this was the one available to show. The staff who assisted me there was a very pleasant young woman who had been recruited from the South. The dining area looked very pleasant. Francis, the one in-charge of the dining room, came out and greeted me. It was a nice place. But one of the things that deterred me was their transportation. The Kaiser hospital that I go to is beyond the scope of where their drivers would go. Now they would take you, but you have to pay extra for that. The person who accommodated me during the tour was good. The facilities were pleasant and nice, the room they showed us was on the southwest side, so it would get the afternoon. To me that's a little less desirable because it would be very hot.

Everyone was very friendly at BridgePoint, it was very clean, very nice, and everything was a 5. It is more homey than resort style. I looked at a 1-bedroom room, and it was very nice, bright, and comfortable. I went at lunch time. I didn’t really see any activities -- I just looked at people eating -- but I know they have a full calendar of activities; it’s incredible. I have not eaten there but I saw the food, and it’s seems very high end -- like really gourmet -- and it smelled delicious; I am going to bring my father there for lunch. It really seemed like better than all the other places I looked at. They have waiters -- have people take orders and bring them the food -- but it was very bright and nice. I wasn’t looking at it like a restaurant; it was more like, this was probably the most attractive one. It is very close to my house; it would be close for me and to my father so that was good. It seemed to have the exact and the best care. It seems to have a lot of caring employees and activities like it had a gym. It was the only one that had a workout area where the trainers actually work with the residents on a regular basis. It seemed like it was just the most complete care.

My grandmother is staying in one of the studio apartment style rooms at BridgePoint. The room is small-ish but works for her needs. The staff is wonderful. They are so caring and attentive. I would recommend BridgePoint without hesitation.
