I am the child of a former client of Home Instead – Madison. I have a couple of significant concerns about the organization that I feel are worth sharing. The first concern applies universally. In our experience their time accounting system leaves something to be desired. There is often a discrepancy between the amount of time spent and what is reported. Unlike some other organizations that use a racking app with GPS, Home Instead relies on the caregiver simply reporting to the office. There is a log book kept at the house but in our case that had entries less than half of the time and it generally reflected the assigned shift not the actual hours. My advice, check in occasionally to see if they are there and if they are, see if they are doing anything more than reading a book or surfing on their phone. The second and more important concern applies if you are seeking dementia care. While they claim to have caregivers with specialized training, there is little evidence to support this. While they may have some that have gone through some CARE training, the vast majority seem to be new to home care and did not claim to have been trained. I urge you to meet with each and every caregiver and watch their interactions with your loved-one. Dementia care is not something to be taken lightly. In a nut shell, do not assume that you are getting what you pay for. Verify. If they are not giving you what you pay for, there are other organizations in the area that will. That said they do have one or two wonderful dedicated (though not skilled specifically in dementia care) caregivers.

We used Home Instead Senior Care for 4 weeks for my sister. They come to the house for 3 hours and helped out. My sister liked the caregiver, and she's nice. They had an old phone number in the system, and it got confusing, and I tried to tell them to use a better phone number.

The manager is a warm and caring person. He noted that while they are caring for the client it was important they helped the care giver too. You need to set your expectations ie not on the cell phone unless necessary. Don't be afraid to ask for the type of person would work best including care of pets. The caregivers were always on time. A sub wasn't capable of some duties. The .manager always followed up.

I hired Home Instead in the Madison area to help care for my mom. They would not take her along for shopping trips, haircuts, etc., unless they could drive a family member's car. It was ridiculous!

I’m happy with Home Instead Senior Care. They cost much less than the others, and their service is very good and very professional. I got a caregiver right away. She helps my husband with the bath and grooming, cleans up the house, and sometimes cleans the dishes and vacuums. She’s very patient, and seems to be handling him very good. I don’t meet her, because by the time I leave, she’s not here; and when I come home, she’s not here, but my husband seems to like her. Whenever I need their services, I just give them two days notice, so they’re very helpful.

We hired Home Instead Senior Care. They are very informing, and the supervisor keeps me informed of what is going on. My step daddy really enjoys the persons that have been coming into their house. They seem to be very caring. The scheduling and billing are excellent.

I have worked with other in-home care providers, and my experience with Home Instead Senior Care is by far the best I have had. My caregivers have been pleasant, on time, and good at their jobs. The office staff has treated my requests with respect. I truly appreciate the help and support I have received from Home Instead.

The people are very accommodating and do a good job. It would be nice if there was a website to allow a person to verify the appointment dates and time.

With so many senior care options available the choice was made easier by a recommendation from my daughter-in-law in Chicago who used Home Instead's services for her mother. Our experience here with Home Instead was excellent as well. David, my husband's care giver, was professional and genuine. He was always on time and thorough in his care with a sense of humor and interest in both my husband and me - willing to assist as needed and open to suggestions. The office staff was accommodating and efficient in their role. If we need in-home care again, we certainly will call Home Instead.

We were fortunate to have Ann represent Home Instead as a caregiver for our 95-year old mother and it was a great match. Ann had a way of working with my mother that made her feel a part of whatever was being done for her. She worked with my mother when there was a cooking, baking or canning project she wanted to do. We were very pleased with the care that Home Instead was able to provide.

I was referred to Home Instead by a person I trust, and I have been extremely pleased with the relationship that has grown between my mother and her caregivers. I feel comfortable communicating anything with them, and they are willing to take on nearly any task. Mom has come to really enjoy caregivers visit, and they have allowed her to maintain a sense of independence and dignity.

I was extremely pleased with the care I received from Home Instead Senior Care. The staff was very caring and respectful. Most of all, I have been pleased and extremely grateful for their sensitivity to my personal needs and requirements. Thank you, Home Instead Senior Care!!!
