About This Community

Home Instead is a non-medical provider of personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands, incidental transportation and even Alzheimer's and dementia care. Our CAREGivers encourage, assist, and stimulate our clients in a variety of activities that improve their quality of life and help them maintain their independence. All of these services allow a senior to stay HOME INSTEAD for a longer period of time.

Home Instead - Caregiver Skills

Safety training on home safety, avoiding injury and falls, preventing strain and pain, safety in the kitchen, cautious cleaning, safe driving, outdoor safety hazards, and disease protection and prevention.

Basic training on emergency situations including stroke, falls and fractures and sudden illness, communication tips including communicating to those with dementia or Alzheimer's, activities for seniors to engage in, mealtime preparations, housekeeping tips, signs of abuse, and tips on reducing caregiver stress.

Advanced training on understanding senior illnesses and conditions, depression in seniors, caregiver stress, in-home exercise for older adults, making mealtime fun, communication tips with the senior, their family, and the caregiver's franchise office.

Activity training including reminiscing activities, modifying activities, activities in facilities, adapting activities for those with impairments, different types of engaging activities for older adults such as gardening, mind builders, and crafts and hobbies, and getting a senior involved in the community in places like senior centers, worship services, volunteering and errands.

We have 24 hour care for a loved one and its great as they take a genuine interest in the clients and also keep close contact with the family.

Please give your staff members who took care of my father a big thank you. I think the girl who came out the most was Miranda ?! My brother Cuck mentioned so many wonderful and kind words about her, she was a perfect fit for my dad. We felt very comfortable knowing she was there taking care of our hero, even though dad didn't wear a cape he surly deserved one. Please tell her she has a big heart and we wouldn't have ask anyone else to take care of dad. Again thank y'all for coming out last minute saving us, we were literally standing there with out luggage ready to get on a plane home to South Caroline when Pietro and Dillon showed up! At 6pm!!! In Port O'Connor on a Friday night!!! Wow I cant express how much I appreciate you and your staff. Whishing you all happiness and success ..... Stephanie Pearson

Home Instead care providers were exceptional. They were all kind-hearted, professional, eager to please and centered on the care of my step-dad. We are intermittent clients. We only need services about one week every few months when we are in town. Both the office staff and the care providers themselves have made scheduling very easy.

My husband is a quadriplegic due to a fall and needs total assistance, so we have caregivers daily. Home Instead has done a great job matching staff to our needs. If there has been any issue with a caregiver that I could not resolve, the agency was quick to step in. I cannot say enough positive things about our current caregivers - they are prompt, efficient, follow instructions well and truly care about my husband's well-being.

The planning and the paperwork with Home Instead were all done, I made my deposit, and their first day of service was scheduled, but they did not show up. That was on a Monday morning, and they were supposed to have shown up at 7:30 with the caregiver and a person from administration; neither person showed up. I got a call after 8 o’clock telling me that they were not available that day. The next morning, they never called and said they were coming the next day, but nothing. Monday, I didn’t hear anything from them. Tuesday morning as I was leaving to go to work, a substitute individual showed up, but I had to apologize and tell them that I could not stay and do the acquaintance interview because I was already late for an appointment and that I had already made other arrangements for the day. I didn’t hear from anyone until Wednesday afternoon, and I told them at that point that I was still thinking about it and that I will call them back. I called them back late Wednesday and told them that I had decided not to use their services, which was left with the message, and no one called back that day. Thursday afternoon, someone from the administration called back, and I told them I would not be using their services. They were only interested in providing someone for Friday, so I told them that that wasn’t necessary because I had already made arrangements and that I wanted my deposit back. They told me my deposit would not be available until Tuesday of the following week. I did not receive it or a call on Tuesday of the following week. Wednesday, I made an in-person appearance at their office in Victoria and requested my deposit back. They did not have it ready, and I had to wait. Eventually the check was prepared and given to me. It started out nice, but when it was time for actual services to occur, it was not.
