About This Community
Home Instead is a non-medical provider of personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands, incidental transportation and even Alzheimer's and dementia care. Our CAREGivers encourage, assist, and stimulate our clients in a variety of activities that improve their quality of life and help them maintain their independence. All of these services allow a senior to stay HOME INSTEAD for a longer period of time.
Home Instead - Caregiver Skills
Safety training on home safety, avoiding injury and falls, preventing strain and pain, safety in the kitchen, cautious cleaning, safe driving, outdoor safety hazards, and disease protection and prevention.
Basic training on emergency situations including stroke, falls and fractures and sudden illness, communication tips including communicating to those with dementia or Alzheimer's, activities for seniors to engage in, mealtime preparations, housekeeping tips, signs of abuse, and tips on reducing caregiver stress.
Advanced training on understanding senior illnesses and conditions, depression in seniors, caregiver stress, in-home exercise for older adults, making mealtime fun, communication tips with the senior, their family, and the caregiver's franchise office.
Activity training including reminiscing activities, modifying activities, activities in facilities, adapting activities for those with impairments, different types of engaging activities for older adults such as gardening, mind builders, and crafts and hobbies, and getting a senior involved in the community in places like senior centers, worship services, volunteering and errands.

Home Instead is an organization that provides a wholistic approach to elder care. They meet with both the family and individual to understand needs. They do random site checks to ensure quality is being met. Their entire staff is so kind and courteous and always address questions/concerns/changes right away. After researching several agencies before making our selection and having services for our father for some time, I would highly recommend Home Instead. Excellent organization for elder care in the home!

Home Instead provides sitters for our parents. They offer companionship to both, take my mother to activities and play cards routinely with her. They take my father to lunch and dinner and to visit my mother. The conversations they have with my father help to keep his mind stimulated. The caregivers typically arrive on time and if there is a change in the schedule we are notified in advance. Home Instead has been responsive to all special requests made to accommodate the needs of our parents

Home Instead has been a God-send. They provide peace of mind while I'm at work and are flexible in allotting additional time when I need it. The staff are kind and compassionate and are willing to do whatever it takes to keep my loved one happy and safe.

My dad has had Home Instead services for about one and a half years. I have been very pleased with the caregiver that comes to help my dad. I also have been pleased with Home Instead staff for being on top of things and keeping me informed.

Home Instead Senior Care is very reliable and has excellent caregivers. They are also very flexible and accommodating regarding scheduling, and I feel very comfortable having them care for my mom for either one day or for a whole week.

Difficult to contact if there is a problem. Don't call you back or they are in a "Meeting". Taking days and many phone calls without any help. Quite disappointing, have used them in the past. Watch you bill, make sure it is the service you need and asked for.

Home Instead has programs that support the families as well. Every caregiver that has attended to Mom has shown a depth of compassion and ability that I did not expect. I can't recommend Home Instead more highly.

I have been extremely satisfied by all the Home Instead personnel. When my father died in 2010 I was left with numerous choices, both financial and immediate obligations to care for my mother in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. I interviewed 3 care giver companies in that area and settled on Home Instead. I have not been displeased with the personnel they have sent me. Several individuals in particular have stood out. Carol R RN, Leah, Laura A, Patricia M, Alicia F, and Elaine W have made the experience worthwhile. The best person of all the caregivers has been and will always be Ms. Wharton........the most unselfish and caring person. Her professionalism is unbelievable and goes beyond the call of duty. Her work ethic smacks of the old school methods. There is always one person that doesnt t qualify but I cannot recall any such individual. I hope Ms Wharton continues to remain with this organization.

I like that it is a professional organization with an excellent word of mouth reputation. I like that they do a thorough interview and don't rush through the process. I like that the price is reasonable for the kind of care delivered. I like that the caregivers seem competent and caring, and don't seem to need constant direction and supervision, especially the older ones

Their caregivers are well trained and the staff has become responsive when problems arise. They also have become more accepting of friendships between caregiver and client and seem somewhat less restrictive than they had been. My family has been using Home Instead for nearly 4 years. I
recommend them without reservation.
