About This Community
United Homecare Services was founded in 2001 as a nonprofit company with the mission "To enhance the dignity and quality of life of Oregon seniors and their families who seek home assistance."
We provide comprehensive nonmedical personal care and companionship in your home. Our services range from as few as two hours per day to 24-hours-seven days a week, depending on your need. Our services include:
Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, mobility and companionship
Transportation: accompanying client to appointments, shopping, church and activities
Household tasks: light housekeeping, meal preparation and laundry
As a nonprofit, we are a different kind of caregiving agency. We have only two major concerns: providing the best possible care to those in need, and supporting our valuable team of experienced caregivers. We do not need to make a profit for the franchise, shareholders or owners.

The provider gives me a break from having to care for my husband. They are able to do things I cannot.

They're very necessary for me. My caretaker helps me throughout the day, including putting me to bed at night.

For me, the caregivers have helped the most with housekeeping. For my wife, they have helped the most with personal care.
I like that they're caring. The people that they send know their business and they care about you.

The client does not react well to strangers, and I do not know how they could be any kinder to him.
I would recommend them because they care about my husband and they treat him with dignity.

I wouldn't be able to do anything without them. If it weren't for Gordon's condition, I would rate higher. Due to his condition, I do need to stay around. They allow me to do things like showering and laundry.
They are thorough and attempt to make a match with the caregiver and the client.

The caregivers could have had a greater impact if they could have pushed the client a little harder to do things. It was mainly the client who was not cooperating. My husband just couldn't admit that he needed help.
The agency needs to improve communication.

It has helped make things easier since there are a lot of things like vacuuming, laundry, and cooking that I can't do on my own. I appreciate all the help that they give me.
They are lovely and at first they had a bunch of different gals working with me, but then they finally got me settled with just one gal. Before their care I was on my own, and it was very hard, but now it is easier.

The client cannot function without them. They help him with everything including getting ready for the day and they help with the house.
They keep me informed and they are easy to work with.

There are things that I cannot do that they do for me like light house keeping. The people that I am getting are okay, but the caregiver I have does not do some of the things that I have on the list.
It was not my decision because it is the VA who is paying for this, but I like this company and it is okay.

We couldn't do without them. The caregiver is a really caring individual outside of the job. Sometimes she will stop and pick little things up for my mom. She is very sweet and she goes above and beyond the general call of duty. She keeps me informed of the daily things since I don't live in the same city. She keeps me updated on if she sees something odd that I might need to know about. She is very communicative and that is super important.
I like that they have been really responsive. The first caregiver we were presented with has been a great fit and that doesn't happen all the time. Usually you have to go through a couple people to find the right fit so that has been a great experience.

Lisa and her team provided excellent care to my spouse with Alzheimers for the last 2 yrs. Sandy was so good with him and became a great friend and advisor to me. Her kind gentle spirit and laid back manner were a perfect fit for us . Valerie was super in providing overnight care , I couldn't have managed without her. Dawn was also provided great service and I believe Chuck loved watching animal programs with her! I can't thank them enough.

They have helped us the most by having people here to help me. He's 90, I'm 89. There is no way I can handle it by myself.
I like that they are always available if there is an emergency. The few people I have had have been excellent.

The caregiver is doing everything she can do. The caregiver doing the little things like vitals and getting my husband showered and dressed is very helpful to me.

It is causing me and the client's wife a lot of stress. I should not have to come in and hear about what the caregiver didn't do. It is a very negative vibe when you are doing his work with him right there and he does not help.
It would be great if they could provide a checklist of things for the caregiver to do. He does things and leaves, there is no recording of the tasks done.

There is no particular reason I can say. I could see the care being better as a whole due to the caregiver's availability and the staffing shortage. Some of the caregivers were top quality and I would recommend them to everyone, some of them lacked work ethic and personality.
The manager was great to work with and had great communication. I know they have some staffing issues and she was more than willing to help us find coverage for care.

The person who does come is very good, but, unfortunately, she can only come six hours a week. Since I depend on her for bathing and other things, it's not what I had expected. They are looking for someone to come and help me four days a week, though.
They need to have better availability of personnel.

Our family is glad that we have the services. It has taken some of the stress off of me and it has given Rod some support.
I like the people that have come to help out. Everyone has been very caring, friendly, and adept at what they are doing. It has been a very positive experience.

It allows the client's family to get outside and get a breather from the care.
The caregiver we use only has a few other patients, so we feel like she is not overbooked. The caregiver also lives very close to our parents. It is convenient.

I get her for nine hours a week. The little bit of time I have with her is good. She finishes things up, like doing the dishes, helping with the cooking, vacuuming, making the bed, etc.
I just started with them. The girl that comes here likes doing stuff.

I only have help two times a month. It doesn't have that much of an impact at this point.
I've had two different caregivers out here. The first one was very sweet and we had a lot of fun together but she didn't come back. The one the sent in her place helped me greatly around the house.

They could actually get a new manager that would let me know when somebody can't make it to work. They could also hire more qualified people for the job.
The manager doesn't seem to be able to coordinate hours and things properly. In the past, Lisa has sent out poor quality people and hired poor quality people.

I have recommended them to several people. So far we have had the same person for a long time. She is excellent and I like that they can provide for her. When she cannot be there they will provide a substitute.

Isaac comes three times a week to be with him while I step out. He gives me respite throughout the week.

Early on it was perfect until the caregivers started changing. That was very hard for him to communicate with them. It was hard for him to make the adjustment of not having a permanent caregiver.
We had to change caregiver frequently in the last year before COVID and it was not a good thing.

I had heart surgery and needed help cleaning. They gave me the time to rest by body, I didnt have a lot of energy and was not able to breathe very well.

Over the past year we have gone through five different caregivers. A lot of that is not the fault of the agency. But we haven't had the opportunity to work with one caregiver for a long time. Some of them were not good at all and did not follow rules and regulations. But hopefully the most recent caregiver can come back after Covid-19.
They could have more consistent staffing and better training for them.

Because of the state of his health right now, he is often separated from the rest of the family, but his caregiver will keep him company and talk to him. It is huge for me to know that he is not just sitting there by himself.

It's a needed service for my mother. She has dementia and can't stay by herself. They stay four hours a day.
They are reliable. If a caregiver is sick, they have someone to replace them.

It's had an improvement. I have 18 hours a week where I can do my job because somebody takes care of my husband.
I don't like being told that I have to use one service. I would like to shop around.
