About This Community
Home Instead is a non-medical provider of personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands, incidental transportation and even Alzheimer's and dementia care. Our CAREGivers encourage, assist, and stimulate our clients in a variety of activities that improve their quality of life and help them maintain their independence. All of these services allow a senior to stay HOME INSTEAD for a longer period of time.
Home Instead - Caregiver Skills
Safety training on home safety, avoiding injury and falls, preventing strain and pain, safety in the kitchen, cautious cleaning, safe driving, outdoor safety hazards, and disease protection and prevention.
Basic training on emergency situations including stroke, falls and fractures and sudden illness, communication tips including communicating to those with dementia or Alzheimer's, activities for seniors to engage in, mealtime preparations, housekeeping tips, signs of abuse, and tips on reducing caregiver stress.
Advanced training on understanding senior illnesses and conditions, depression in seniors, caregiver stress, in-home exercise for older adults, making mealtime fun, communication tips with the senior, their family, and the caregiver's franchise office.
Activity training including reminiscing activities, modifying activities, activities in facilities, adapting activities for those with impairments, different types of engaging activities for older adults such as gardening, mind builders, and crafts and hobbies, and getting a senior involved in the community in places like senior centers, worship services, volunteering and errands.

We are currently using Home Instead Rochester, NY. We chose them because they are caring and how they responded to us. Their schedule is nine until noon and then six until nine. Basically, they are doing the laundry, cleaning, and doing the general things that need to get done that I can't do. They are absolutely top-notch and very good.

Home Instead Senior Care is the first agency we had for my friend which is by far the worst agency that I have ever been affiliated or dealt with. I recommend them to no one. They dropped my friend as a client at the last minute with no aide. They've called and had nobody to relieve the following person when my friend had to have 24-hour care. I've had to go there and work overnight because they couldn't find somebody to fill the shift, and they charged outrageous amounts. They're very unprofessional. They're a horrible establishment and somebody should take a good look at how the company is run because something just isn't right there. We tried to believe they were the best even though they were more expensive, and they were bad. They didn't show up, didn't have replacements, called that they'd be a couple hours late, and didn't relieve the last person. They'd say, "Oh we can't do that unless we charge you time and a half," for things that were their problem, not ours. I'm not saying their people are bad, but the people who ran the company were bad. They didn't run it the way it was supposed to be run. A lot of the people who worked there were good.

We have been with Home Instead over a year now. The aides continue to be compassionate, knowledgeable, and reliable. Office staff does an amazing job of listening and responding to any concerns or changes we may have. We highly recommend them to anyone needing assistance for their loved ones.

This agency checks all the boxes. When a new aide comes to your home they send a management team member to introduce the aide to the family.
Caregivers are polite, attentive and interact in a positive way with family members. It is a pleasure to have them in our home.

The company has been very responsive to our needs and has worked well with us to find an excellent caregiver suited for our loved one. I couldn't expect more and I am very grateful that I found Home Instead. We have received care for our loved one for 4 months, so far, and expect that to continue for a long time.

My mom is 96 and the GrandPad has been a life saver during this pandemic. Homeinstead calls her regularly to see how she is doing and have been ready to add any other assistance that we require. They are wonderfully kind and patient with my moms needs.

Ask questions. Home Instead is experienced and will provide excellent advice to prepare for a home health aide. We have 24/7 care and the strong team of aides (and their teamwork), have helped tremendously. My parents are doing extremely well and we are so fortunate they are in their own home!
The Leadership team is responsive and as hands on as you wish! Highly recommend Home Instead.

We contracted with Home Instead/Professional Assistance for Seniors from Monday, April 9, 2018 until Wednesday, April 25, 2018 for my 95 year old mother. We contracted for 75 total hours of home health aide service during this time period. My mother had a multitude of different health aides care for her during our contract. Some were excellent, highly trained, and very professional. Others were obviously novice aides/trainees, who really didn't interact with my mother at all. As she conveyed to me at the time, one aide spent most of the time doing her college homework and in another instance, one health aide spent most of the time on her cell phone, not caring for or interacting with my mother. Also, there were times when the assigned aides were either late or "no shows" for their scheduled times with my mother. We found this to be especially unacceptable since both my husband and I had to readjust our schedules several times at the last minute.
Also, on July 10, 2018 we were finally able to contact the owner of Home Instead Senior Care-Rochester with respect to the remainder of my mother's service deposit refund which was over $4,000.00. This refund was supposed to be refunded to her back in May, 2018. The owner stated that the refund check had previously been sent to us but that it may have been lost/misplaced by the Post Office. The owner, to her credit, immediately apologized for the inconvenience and issued another check which was hand delivered to me within an hour by a Home Instead Employee.

Right from the start Home Instead set us at ease. Joy/Julie and team have been incredibly caring and responsive. They have helped us along the journey of our Mother's alzheimer's - with aide services, recommendations for assisted living and making phone calls on our behalf. Service is outstanding and the aides dedicated, caring and responsive to our and our Mom's needs. Thank you!!

The aides that Home Instead hires are very dedicated and caring whether it be staying an additional shift or making home made meals or taking my 88 year old aunt out for a drive or to church, they love and take appreciate her as if she were their aunt!!! As no family members live in the area, we feel very blessed that Home Instead is our surrogate family and life line to Aunt Pat.
