About This Community
Home Instead is a non-medical provider of personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands, incidental transportation and even Alzheimer's and dementia care. Our CAREGivers encourage, assist, and stimulate our clients in a variety of activities that improve their quality of life and help them maintain their independence. All of these services allow a senior to stay HOME INSTEAD for a longer period of time.
Home Instead - Caregiver Skills
Safety training on home safety, avoiding injury and falls, preventing strain and pain, safety in the kitchen, cautious cleaning, safe driving, outdoor safety hazards, and disease protection and prevention.
Basic training on emergency situations including stroke, falls and fractures and sudden illness, communication tips including communicating to those with dementia or Alzheimer's, activities for seniors to engage in, mealtime preparations, housekeeping tips, signs of abuse, and tips on reducing caregiver stress.
Advanced training on understanding senior illnesses and conditions, depression in seniors, caregiver stress, in-home exercise for older adults, making mealtime fun, communication tips with the senior, their family, and the caregiver's franchise office.
Activity training including reminiscing activities, modifying activities, activities in facilities, adapting activities for those with impairments, different types of engaging activities for older adults such as gardening, mind builders, and crafts and hobbies, and getting a senior involved in the community in places like senior centers, worship services, volunteering and errands.

We are doing in-home care right now, and we are using Home Instead for my dad. There are CNAs that come. They do light housework. They do companion care, and they do help with personal hygiene. We have been using them for two months now. There are different caregivers, and they're all very trustworthy and very caring. They're reliable and helpful. When I went to their office, they were very professional and got back to me right away. I just liked how they run their business.

Home Instead is the best regarding All aspects of home care! We tried hiring privately without a company but discovered the hassles associated with having dependable care providers. Some wanted to work their hours not what my father needed, some would not show up or they would call in. We had the VA send subcontracted care into our homes only to have them as no shows, late etc. Home Instead while not a VA provider takes all of the worries away for family members like myself who are needing care for their loved ones. It is worth every penny! The employees are always on time, pleasant, compassionate, accommodating and understanding regarding the needs of the client. We do not worry about whether or not someone will be there for him. The employees have had background checks and all seem to be fitting for our father’s personality and needs! I would give them more than five stars! Being a prior employee of this company, I know how hard the owners and office staff work to match employees with the clients. And I know how well the owners treat the employees. After trying to schedule help on our own and having other companies come in subcontracted by the VA, Home Instead is the only company I trust. We know our father is getting the best care possible! And that the care providers will show up!!

I read a number of reviews from other clients of Home Instead of New Bern and all I can say is Amen! Exclamations describing our experience with Home Instead. are: Commitment to excellence! Professionalism! A genuine personal interest in the client who, in this case, is our mom.. Flexibility in scheduling. Exceptional response from management 100% of the time. The intrinsic things that money cannot buy are the safety and comfort we feel with Home Instead coming into mom's home. And, our mom LOVES the caregivers who come to her house. from Home Instead. Great organization from top to bottom. that manages to mix a very professional service approach with awesome and compassionate caregivers. My wife has moved on to another level of care but will always fondly remember her Home Instead caregivers.

We have some people doing home health care now for my mother from Home instead Senior Care. The main thing that makes us decide to hire them is that they are already serving others in the apartment building where my parents live. They are trying very hard to meet our personal requests. Their work ethics are very good. I think the management is responsive to our scheduling requests, and their billing is clear.

We were able to hire Home Instead. Unfortunately, it turned out to be short-term because my father-in-law passed away three weeks ago. They were very professional, and we were very happy with their care although we only had service twice. Like I said, they were very professional, on time, worked very hard, and very pleasant to work with. I had no complaints, but we really barely got started when he had to go to the hospital.

Home Instead Senior Care- New Bern provided excellent care to my father. He was living over 500 miles away from his nearest family and gradually deteriorating. They first became involved when we saw that he needed help. At that time he insisted he didn't need assistance, but all the paperwork was done and it was set up for when he was ready. I think that was important because when his needs became greater beginning service from Home Instead was very easy. As my father declined, the services from Home Instead Senior Care- New Bern increased. This included trips to the doctor, physical therapy, the grocery store, the barber, etc, and unfortunately to the hospital. During several hospital stays, Home Instead was invaluable both when family was not right there and after they came to town. Eventually my father agreed it was time to move closer to family and now lives near three of his children. I also must mention the quality of the relationships my father had with the staff of Home Instead. Every person connected with Home Instead treated my father with respect and as a friend. This treatment started at the top with the owners of Home Instead-New Bern and was demonstrated by every single person who worked for them. They are a wonderful and caring group of people.

Over the past two years, I have used four different home care companies. J.D. B. of Home Instead and his staff are clearly the best-managed and qualified company. As the owner, J. D. B. is very customer focused and involved in ensuring that his customers' needs are met. These same qualities are also displayed by all staff who have always met my needs and expectations.

Exceptional, professional, caring and thorough. Their care of my 87 year-old father was more than anyone could ask for. From dealing with household issues to oversight of his doctor's appointments, meals, cleaning, and great companionship they rose to every occasion and kept our family informed. You could not make a better choice.

These are people who really care about their clients. They are the ultimate in professionalism and competence. We had no relatives in the town where our father lives, so it was critical to have an agency we could depend on. The Home Instead staff were exceptional and cared for him while providing friendship and security. They were always kind and respectful, allowing him to maintain his dignity. They are truly a special group.

The caregivers did care and took pride in trying to help my wife recover. They were competent in every respect. Office staff were always responsible to my wife's changing needs and schedule of service. I thank them.

The caregivers are neat, clean, and professional in appearance. They are attentive, helpful, and willing to do activities in many areas. They are also pleasant even on "trying" days. I've heart the term "care-partners" recently and I think that's a good term. The office phone is answered promptly and pleasantly and adjust to altered hours due to doctor appointments. We're happy we chose Home Instead. Lee and JD are at the top of their service, kind, interested, flexible, and just "good people"!
