About This Community
Seniors Home Care (SHC), a privately owned company operated by a Registered Nurse, has been providing professional and compassionate St. Louis-area elder care since 1987. SHC offers complete personal and household services that allow seniors to maintain their dignity and independence, wherever they call home.
I’m Kit Whittington. When I founded Seniors Home Care (SHC), it was the realization of a dream: to provide in-home care for older adults in the St. Louis area.
It was more than 26 years ago when my own grandmother needed in-home care. Without access to an organization like SHC, we felt I had no choice but to resign from my corporate job to care for her myself. Being a single mom, this was a tough decision, but I’m so grateful I made it. It helped me realize that I wasn’t the only one who needed these services for loved ones.

Whether it’s a private residence or an assisted living facility, wherever your loved one calls home, Seniors Home Care can help maintain their safety and independence. You will find our list of most commonly used services below. But if the service you’re looking for is not listed here, please ask by calling our office. We’re always looking for new ways to serve the needs of our families.
We complete a complimentary assessment between the hours of 8:30 and 4:00, Monday through Friday with all new clients. (After-hours assessments can be arranged for a fee.)
Pricing is based on the more hours you reserve, the lower the cost per hour. Clients are welcome to mix and match services as needed. The number and types of services requested may determine the length of the visit. With 150+ caregivers whose skills and availabilities vary, we identify each caregiver’s skill and match them to the client’s requests

It's strictly at night. It allows us to get some sleep. The job isn't as difficult.

The most helpful part of the care is that the CNA is able to help me do a lot more than the other caregivers.
The agency is very responsive and they also take our requests into account.

They have helped my mother a lot. Some of the care has been good and they have gotten her to be active. That was a reason why we got the agency because she was spending all day in her pajamas and sleeping all day. They help with doing puzzles and taking her out for walks.
It just seems like they have a high turnover rate and some of the people they send are not that skilled.

It depends on the worker and I do not need 9 hours a week but that is the least I can get.
There is just a big difference in care by different workers. I would like it a whole lot better if I had the same health care worker rather than different people. Experience really shows. I appreciate the ones who are experienced. It makes a huge difference.

They talk with me and my wife. I am blind so I can't read. I can barely walk but they talk with my wife and tell her all the things I need to know and how to do it.
It made me do physical therapy very well and improved my leg which had been broken.

They have kept her clean from recurring UTIs. They also make sure she is warm, comfortable and clean.
I have a team of four caregivers 24/7. I have two caregivers who alternate on days and two on nights, and they all work well together. They provide the care according to the doctor's suggestions and my suggestions.

Most of the people we have had have been very good. There was one time that we were not able to get any help during an emergency but that was it.

We had the same girl for a long time, and they transferred her, and then, we had someone else. We have them two times, and then, they quit.
They have a lot of people working for them, and we have had quite a few different ones. The one today didn't show up.

They don't come in very often, just a few times a week. They could have better-trained substitutes. The idea of having someone come in who is not experienced is not worth it. They don't really know anything, so we might as well not have them there. They should have the substitutes shadow the caregiver every once in a while.
