About This Community

Home Instead is a non-medical provider of personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands, incidental transportation and even Alzheimer's and dementia care. Our CAREGivers encourage, assist, and stimulate our clients in a variety of activities that improve their quality of life and help them maintain their independence. All of these services allow a senior to stay HOME INSTEAD for a longer period of time.

Home Instead - Caregiver Skills

Safety training on home safety, avoiding injury and falls, preventing strain and pain, safety in the kitchen, cautious cleaning, safe driving, outdoor safety hazards, and disease protection and prevention.

Basic training on emergency situations including stroke, falls and fractures and sudden illness, communication tips including communicating to those with dementia or Alzheimer's, activities for seniors to engage in, mealtime preparations, housekeeping tips, signs of abuse, and tips on reducing caregiver stress.

Advanced training on understanding senior illnesses and conditions, depression in seniors, caregiver stress, in-home exercise for older adults, making mealtime fun, communication tips with the senior, their family, and the caregiver's franchise office.

Activity training including reminiscing activities, modifying activities, activities in facilities, adapting activities for those with impairments, different types of engaging activities for older adults such as gardening, mind builders, and crafts and hobbies, and getting a senior involved in the community in places like senior centers, worship services, volunteering and errands.

We're using Home Instead Joplin for my mom. They are coming in and doing light housekeeping, they are doing meal planning and meal prep. They're just being there for her and that's pretty much it. So far, we've been extremely pleased with the caregivers. They seem to be better prepared for dealing with people at my mom's stage than the company that we used previously. We've been extremely pleased with the people that we've dealt with in management that came out to do the home survey, came out to introduce the primary caregiver to my mother. We had a time when she was not well and somebody else came out, but when they brought back her primary caregiver, they came out with her, sat with her and my mother, and talked about what's to be expected and what they expected. It was very good. When we first contacted them, we were having difficulty finding in-home care. But once we got started with Home Instead, we're very hopeful that we can keep her home longer than we thought.

Home Instead provides Arise/Tuck-in services for my mother. The staff is punctual and provides excellent care for Mom. I have good relationship with the caregivers and am pleased with each one. The agency has tried to provide an aide for the times Mom needs them.

The services that I need require a certain amount of physical strength (helping me in and out of the shower and to get up and down). Let the agency know if you require special skills. All of our caregivers have been punctual. Most have been very sociable. Let the agency know if you prefer someone who is quiet or who is very conversational. The agency has been very responsive to my requests. You do need to be prepared for changes in caregivers as the best ones tend to get promoted or move on to other occupations.

Home Instead provides a loving and caring atmosphere for my mom. They go up and beyond what I would of expected. They are very professional. They bake cookies, go out for lunch, walk her dog, help with her laundry, anything she wants or needs. Their care givers fill in as family while we are gone. My mom can’t wait till the next time they come. They are always on time. The care givers are very knowledgeable with my mom’s health issues, Alzheimer’s and dementia. The care givers ALWAYS give me an up date of how the day went and if there were any concerns. The agency is very complyinent with giving me a certain care giver if requested. If one is needing this type of service I would highly recommend Home Instead. You won’t be sorry.

I appreciate that this agency will send someone to the home before the dates of service for training. My husband is disabled and we have certain routines that we follow. The caregiver was chosen with my husband’s personality and needs in mind. She was friendly, very patient, and very capable. She was willing to do any extras that my husband thought to ask for in his care. The caregiver turned my husband in bed each morning and at night for bedtime. She fixed and fed him meals and helped in bathing him and changing the sheets on the bed. As I recovered from surgery the caregiver was also a help to me in the small ways that I needed. The caregiver kept the client’s area clean – she emptied the trash and washed up dishes as needed. She was always on time and responsible.
