About This Community
Home Instead is a non-medical provider of personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands, incidental transportation and even Alzheimer's and dementia care. Our CAREGivers encourage, assist, and stimulate our clients in a variety of activities that improve their quality of life and help them maintain their independence. All of these services allow a senior to stay HOME INSTEAD for a longer period of time.
Home Instead - Caregiver Skills
Safety training on home safety, avoiding injury and falls, preventing strain and pain, safety in the kitchen, cautious cleaning, safe driving, outdoor safety hazards, and disease protection and prevention.
Basic training on emergency situations including stroke, falls and fractures and sudden illness, communication tips including communicating to those with dementia or Alzheimer's, activities for seniors to engage in, mealtime preparations, housekeeping tips, signs of abuse, and tips on reducing caregiver stress.
Advanced training on understanding senior illnesses and conditions, depression in seniors, caregiver stress, in-home exercise for older adults, making mealtime fun, communication tips with the senior, their family, and the caregiver's franchise office.
Activity training including reminiscing activities, modifying activities, activities in facilities, adapting activities for those with impairments, different types of engaging activities for older adults such as gardening, mind builders, and crafts and hobbies, and getting a senior involved in the community in places like senior centers, worship services, volunteering and errands.

To have this agency as a devoted, caring to help me with my wife during her latest injury has been a Godsend. I am not capable to assist to a degree that would really be a help to her, so, I contacted them and they went right in and did all the right things to make life much better.

We wish that we could give Home Instead 10 stars! They were the best and most caring company that we dealt with. Every caregiver at Home Instead that took care of our mother over the past two years were fantastic. They truly liked and felt a personal bond with our mother. When they were at Josie's home, (about 16 hours a day), we had no concerns that she was getting the best care available. If there was a problem or concern, they immediately contacted us to remedy the situation. The office help were also very polite, thorough, and were truly concerned with the well being of our mother. Any time we called with any question they handled it immediately and always with complete satisfaction. Thank you Home Instead!

They provide care for all types of need including but limited to companionship, food preparation, bathing.
I have good interaction with caregivers. They try to match client with caregiver. If not a good match, no big deal just let them know.

Our family loves Home Instead! All the ladies take such wonderful care of our mom. They are professional, prompt and reliable. Victoria always makes sure if there is a change in the schedule, that she notifies me immediately. The ladies treat our mom like she was their mom. I can't say enough great things about them!

We use home care two days a week and glad we started and can increase care as needed. The care is based upon our needs for our morher and gives our family peace of mind and a break during the week.

The girls are always on time. They make sure my mom is bathed and dressed nicely. They make her breakfast. Make sure she’s comfortable. They keep her company.
The company is quick to respond to any concern I might have or question.

I was searching for a caregiver for my dad who has Lewy body dementia. I called several, but then chose HomeInstead. We got a wonderful caregiver who has been with my dad for six months. We are in the process to find additional caregivers and HomeInstead is working hard to find the right person.

I have had other caregivers from other company, but none as good and caregiving as Home Instead. Barbara P. is like one of my daughters. She keeps my home clean, me clean, fixes food, makes sure I take my pill. I look forward to see her each day; always in a good mood. I like that someone from the office checks on us.

I was very happy with my Caregiver and the care she provided. Emma was prompt, dependable and upbeat. She was a real pro. My care was short term (90 days) following a hospitalization and Emma cared for me until I has stable and able to be on my own. She drove me to my appointments.

Right from the start I appreciated the way the employees worked hard and effortlessly to help us find the right fit for our in home care. They really seemed to care and were glad to help. Our caregiver is great and she really helps take a lot of the stress off family for day to day care.

Home Instead provided caregiving services to my Dad while he was living alone at home. We were getting ready to move my Dad to an assisted living facility and because of the doctor's delay in getting an order for a chest x-ray, we had one day to get it done. Since none of my siblings and I live close to my Dad, Home Instead walked me through getting the order from the doctor directly to St. John's medical center and then arranged for my Dad's caregiver to take him for the chest x-ray. I cannot thank the staff enough for calming me down and helping my Dad get the chest x-ray done that day! (And the staff at St. John's medical center was also awesome - they called me to let me know they had faxed the results of the chest x-ray to the assisted living facility!)

I like how quickly the staff has been able to find a replacement caregiver. I also like how the staff listens to my concerns and then offers suggestions on how to keep my Dad safe at home.

Our weekday caregivers have been so good to Mom, they treat her as if she where their mother. They handle the day to day things with Mom which allow us to focus on our jobs. They have great communication with us when something arises and we work through it together. Rhonda and Corrine are GREAT!!!!

I arranged Home Instead to spend a few hours each week with my 90+ year old mother. I am some 2,000 miles away, so having someone reliable and trustworthy was the utmost importance. Home Instead has surpassed my expectations. The caregiver Linda is great with my mother, and will do just about anything for her. I have written to Home Instead a least a couple times complimenting the service. I am impressed that she gets the same caregiver week after week.

The Caregivers that came to help take care of my Aunt were just terrific. They were very respectful and attentive. They brought joy and fun into the house with them. It seemed to me that the caregivers payed attention to the way my Aunt liked things and did their best to fit into her life and not push her to change to theirs.

My entire experience with Home Instead/Shelby office was wonderful. Victoria always took the time to chat, and to not only check on my dad, but to ask how I was doing as well. Dad's care givers, Paul, Chris, Tom and Dan were so loving, kind and caring. I would recommend Home Instead to anyone looking for care for their loved ones. Truly a positive experience!!!!
