The providers pick out my clothes and help me with showers. They help me do things I can't do alone.

I am very sad to leave this review because most of the caregivers our family had during our tenure with VA were excellent, loving and kind. But I have come to the conclusion there is a serious problem with the ownership/management of this particular VA franchise. In the beginning, things worked as expected with normal fits and starts that are typical with home care. We developed great relationships with several of our Angels- but many of them suddenly left. It became really difficult to get in to a routine. This is especially important with dementia care. As people quit, others would come with very little training- they explained they’ve received only video training and nothing in the field. They didn’t receive any dementia training, which is not good, because every aspect of a dementia patients physical care is impacted by the mental impairment. Building trust is a vital aspect of home care- but everything the owners did undermined our trust and confidence in them. After a misunderstanding we thought had been resolved, it seemed they were looking for a reason to terminate our contract, which in the end, they did. It’s very sad and shows how little they actually care for their clients, the actual patients, because they are the ones who suffer. Our Mom loved her caregivers, and was used to them, but because of a minor issue which the owners were unwilling to work with us on or show any compassion or understanding, they abruptly terminated care. If you are looking for care for your loved one, I would think long and hard before contracting with VA of SW MI. If you are a current client, be very careful to follow the contract precisely, and don’t get on their “bad side.” You might find yourself without help!

Visiting Angels has some awesome caregivers, but only because they are personally awesome. VA provides very little training, not even transfers like from bed to chair, toilet to walker. They threatened to fire us as customers when one, brand new caregiver complained about how hard it was to move my mother in law. After intervention with a physical therapist, it was clear the Angels lack of training was the problem. Some of the caregivers we have had developed a very close personal relationship with my mother in law, but the staff at the office does their best to undermine personal relationships. The office staff does not seem to understand the essence of this business. In the end, they did in fact fire us as customers because my mother in law had the sniffles and a mild cough which I did not report it as possible COVID symptoms. They did this even after receiving a negative COVID test. The office staff cares only about possible law suits, in my opinion, making the relationship between clients and caregivers much more tense than necessary. Enter into agreements with them with serious caution. And understand, they will fire you as a customer with no warning if you cross them.

My mom has dementia, she's not fully aware of how many times they come, she just knows she's being taken care of. At this time, I can't answer that because my mom is getting a lot of care. As far as I know they are doing a good job.

I don't have to worry about my grandmother. I love that that step in when they are needed and the training that the angels have.

First of all, the caregiver is always on time and I can always count on them to be there when they are supposed to be. They follow my husband's routine very well. Visiting Angels of Southwest Michigan are willing to help you with almost everything that you need. In my husband's case, he needs a lot of help with transferring, and they are good with that.

The provider helps me with my showers. This agency has very good people, we've had very good luck with them.
