About This Community
Home Instead is a non-medical provider of personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands, incidental transportation and even Alzheimer's and dementia care. Our CAREGivers encourage, assist, and stimulate our clients in a variety of activities that improve their quality of life and help them maintain their independence. All of these services allow a senior to stay HOME INSTEAD for a longer period of time.
Home Instead - Caregiver Skills
Safety training on home safety, avoiding injury and falls, preventing strain and pain, safety in the kitchen, cautious cleaning, safe driving, outdoor safety hazards, and disease protection and prevention.
Basic training on emergency situations including stroke, falls and fractures and sudden illness, communication tips including communicating to those with dementia or Alzheimer's, activities for seniors to engage in, mealtime preparations, housekeeping tips, signs of abuse, and tips on reducing caregiver stress.
Advanced training on understanding senior illnesses and conditions, depression in seniors, caregiver stress, in-home exercise for older adults, making mealtime fun, communication tips with the senior, their family, and the caregiver's franchise office.
Activity training including reminiscing activities, modifying activities, activities in facilities, adapting activities for those with impairments, different types of engaging activities for older adults such as gardening, mind builders, and crafts and hobbies, and getting a senior involved in the community in places like senior centers, worship services, volunteering and errands.

Shay is a great person and a very hardworking, pleasant person. She is not afraid of hard work and is a pleasant person to have around. She is just a very hardworking person. She takes the initiative, she is prompt, and she was always on time. Not only that, she has a great laugh. No problems at all. You get what you pay for, but as far as I'm concerned, she earned her money and that's for sure. Shay and I had a good relationship. I have to say we laugh a lot, which is something that is very important to me to be able to laugh, especially under the circumstance we're working in. Shay had gone with me to pick up groceries that we've ordered online. I missed her and I missed her a lot.

Agency Caretakers provide showers, making client’s bed & folding his clothes, exercises & companionship. Caretakers are punctual, caring & are good company for people with Dementia. Caretakers follow instructions on providing for the needs of their clientele. Agency follows up with how Caretakers are performing their duties.

This company was there when we needed care for my 92 year old father - he insisted on staying in his home, instead of being moved to a long-term care facility. Home Instead made this possible - we highly recommend them.

Home Instead cane in to spend time with my dad while we went on vacation. They were very dependable, personable and it was a great relief knowing they would be here every day with him. Nicki was assigned and he really enjoyed spending time with her. Would definitely have them back!

My father, in his early nineties, gradually required more and more care due to increasing physical limitations and dementia over the past two years. Prior to Home Instead, he had "fired" several other services, Home Instead survived due to their accommodation and gentle persistence. During the last three months, he required 24 hour care and they, as a team, stepped up and provided the care that he needed. Several of the care-givers came to understand him well, in spite of his difficult moments, and were an essential comfort to him in his last days; which he was able to spend at home due to their care and diligence. Home Instead's staff and supervisors were generally pro-active in anticipating needs and made good suggestions for resolving issues as they appeared. During extra-ordinary circumstances they went well beyond what could have been expected, and it was correspondingly very much appreciated. I can recommend them highly and without reservation.

My mom is able to stay in her home and retain her independence with

Home IInstead is operated as a very professional business. The staff and cargivers are well trained. Home Instead should be cinsidered for your caregiver needs.

From the administration to the two ladies, we’ve been very impressed with Home Instead. The things that my father was looking for, especially the social aspect, maintenance in terms of vacuuming and bathrooms and other things, are being taken care of. We had a follow-up discussion with the specific caregivers and the lady who owns it and made some suggestions. My dad’s enjoying it thoroughly. There is no downside at this particular point to anything that we’ve experienced.

We would definitely recommend Home Instead. Everyone is professional and thorough. Susan provided assistance with bathing my mother and provided companionship care.for Mom. We appreciated the gentle care she provided.

Great service. Staff is professional and has always satisfied my mother's needs to obtain transportation to and from doctor's appointments and etc. The driver have always been helpful and get my mom to her appointments on time.

Home Instead -East Lansing is a phenomenal provider of senior care. The staff are well trained, flexible, caring, and compassionate. My dad has been well taken care of and the caregivers were well matched with his needs and personality.

I recently needed assistance for my father to assist him in recovering from surgery. I needed a pretty quick turnaround due to his needs. I called Home Instead senior care in East Lansing to see if they would be able to quickly turnaround. I instantly received a call back from Home Instead and they were very caring and understood my dad's needs. They readily provided me with the necessary paperwork and found a responsible care provider in a matter of hours. Although my dad decided to go a different direction prior to the first meeting, the promptness of this office and quick attention to detail, assures me that if we ever need these types of services, I will not hesitate to call this center.

We used Home Instead during the time our mother was living alone. The office staff was always helpful at making arrangements. The care providers were always kind, helpful and respectful of our mother's needs. They were willing to assist with numerous tasks in a cheerful manner. When it became apparent that our mother needed to move Home Instead was very helpful in allowing a smooth transition to a new facility. Although our mother now lives in an assisted living facility we still use Home Instead when Mom wants to go places when either we or the facility staff are not able to take her. We have been very happy with this company.

They're definitely an A+ in all categories. Patient care, frequent home visits with the client and addresses concerns immediately. Office help and caregivers personable, very concerned about clients care, prepare nice meals and very attentive. Highly-recommended. Home Instead - No complaints whatsoever. Rakael has been wonderfully thoughtful in who she has placed with Lola. She is extremely compassionate and kind. Nancy has been patient, hard working, and sensitive to Lola's needs.

I live out of state, and when my mother needed extra support with driving, getting to appointments, laundry, and miscellaneous needs, I contacted Home Instead in East Lansing. The office staff was efficient and caring in arranging for her care, and my mom's caregiver has been an absolute angel. Although I have not met her, I know that she is a lovely person. My mother is so fond of her and her support has significantly improved the quality of my mom's life. It has also had a positive impact on the quality of my relationship with my mom. I feel more relaxed knowing that someone is helping my mom with the things I would if I lived closer. Now when I come for a visit we don't have to spend all of our time running errands because they have been taken care of, so we have more quality time together. I am so grateful to my mom's caregiver and to Home Instead for being so responsive to our needs and wishes.

We are not happy with Home Instead. The office communication is very poor and they're not respectful or helpful. Very often, the care doesn't come when you need it. I've had two good aides, but the others haven't worked out. Some are not so good and we're not comfortable with them in the home so we had to replace them. We got good one right now, but she doesn't work all the time. We were supposed to have somebody today. We might need to change agency if this wouldn't get any better. So far, they're the worst one we've ever had.
