The concept of relatable seniors speaking the same language as my parents made sense. But when I reached out to this Wayne County chapter of SHS I was BLOWN AWAY by the genuine kindness and flexibility of Carmo R. and his team!
Carmo and his caregiver, Sheila, arrived the very next day after our initial phone call, ready to be on hand for my parents. And although Sheila was hired to ensure safety for my dad, (following recent hospitalizations) she also was sensitive to my mom and her needs as well.
We were updated daily via the SHS portal and were in touch with Sheila and Carmo often!
Carmo continued to be flexible and kind among our crazy scheduling efforts - he always supported our family’s decisions and followed up to ensure our needs were met.
You could not ask for a more loving family of Seniors Helping Seniors!

My brother and I live out of state so we weren't able to help mom on a daily basis.
She resisted moving to our homes and resisted moving into a senior retirement apartment. Seniors helping seniors allowed my mother to remain in her home that she has lived in for over 50 years. A caregiver would come over 3 times a week to help her with her ADL's, do laundry and light housekeeping, take her to her doctors appointment, go grocery shopping for her and in the spring cleaned out her garden. Without this service my mother would've been placed in a nursing home. I found them extremely helpful and kind.

If you ever find yourself in the predicament I experienced recently, you should know there is a not so well known solution. I had to undergo a medical procedure that required another person to be with me during the entire appointment. It was difficult finding an answer to my dilemma as no one was available to accompany me and no suggestions were available from health professionals I spoke to.
I posted an ad on a website that serves as a job locating site for caregivers working as independent contractors. I received a couple of responses. But their offers were expensive and unenthusiastic. They were primarily looking for repetitive assignments with a single client.
Fortunately, my post came to the attention of a representative of Seniors Helping Seniors (SHS). An organization of seniors who help other seniors with a variety of needs. We arranged a brief meeting to talk further, get acquainted, explore requirements and expectations. An easily negotiated arrangement was the quick result.
My companion was professional and friendly throughout the experience. His communication was prompt and reassuring. My anxiety about keeping and attending my appointment was eliminated.
I highly recommend SHS to anyone in southeast Michigan seeking a reliable, competent and safe connection for a similar situation.

Helper arrived on time, helped with housekeeping and laundry, including changing bed linens. Take trash out to barrel and barrel to curb

Always there when you need them. Carmo has such a wonderful team. They are all so sweet and helpful. The care is professional and very sensitive to needs.
Staff was on time and spent more time than required to get things done.
The communication has been prompt and they respond with concern.

I have four full-time caregivers from Seniors Helping Seniors. They come five days a week and spend four hours here. I get along with them. My dog also loves them. They're excellent people. I have been with them for almost eight months now, and it is still entertaining when they come. I have a good rapport with them and I appreciate them. They are a great bunch. The owner calls me to let me know if something is going to change, and sometimes they do, but I don't worry. I'm very pleased with all of them.

I have been working with Seniors Helping Seniors for about a month now. With the help that I have, I appreciate every time that the lady comes. I appreciate Carmen calling and talking with me. They help me keep my house clean. I couldn't do without them.
They're great and I'm planning to keep them as long as I can. I'm very comfortable with the caregiver. When I go to the doctor's appointment, it is on the day that I have the caregiver, which is Tuesday and Thursday. I couldn't do without Marie that comes in my house. I trust her 100%. We're getting really close. I wouldn't trade them for nothing because they're very good. She has helped me so much and I really enjoy working with her. I would recommend Seniors Helping Seniors to anybody.

My father had Seniors Helping Seniors for a good six to seven years. He had somebody there five days a week, which really took a strain off of me because I'm the only one that was local to him at the time. They became a friend to him. Several of them went above and beyond what Seniors Helping Seniors would provide, which is basically companionship, transportation, and grocery shopping. In fact, I still keep in touch with a couple of them because they're like family friends now. They really cared about my dad.
There were a couple of them that didn't stick around long, but towards the end, like the last three or four years, Seniors Helping Seniors were sending over very good people that really went above and beyond. Like they were spending the night with him when he wasn't feeling good and they were coming over on the weekends on their own time just to spend time with him. It went very well for him. It was a lifesaver for us and for the family. It was great and I had no bad experiences with them. Maybe sometimes, they care a little bit too much.
