About This Community
At Assisting Hands, our mission is to offer our clients the very finest personalized non-medical care, allowing them to remain safely and comfortably in their own homes. Our certified, bonded, and insured caregivers have the compassion and skill necessary to help overcome the challenges families and loved ones may face. Our in-home care services range from companionship, meal preparation, medication reminders, shopping and errands, light housekeeping and laundry, to help with bathing and dressing. Ask for our full list of services that we provide.

At Assisting Hands® it is our mission to serve our elderly clients in a comprehensive and compassionate manner. In addition to our caregiving services delivered in the comfort of our client’s home, we believe in coordinating the full spectrum of elder care services available in the community to aid our clients in securing the best possible outcome for their health and well-being.

When a client begins service with Assisting Hands®, a full assessment of needs will be done by our Director of Nursing and a care plan will be implemented to address each of the needs identified.

It is our philosophy during the client assessment to also understand the personality of the person and the type of caregiver that would make the best fit for that individual. We take the time to review the personality of each client and then review available caregivers that make the best fit. We then assign that caregiver to the client and keep that caregiver with the client on an ongoing basis. We believe that the best care is provided when trust is established and when the caregiver really gets to know the client. So unless the client or caregiver requests a change, it’s our policy to keep the caregiver assigned to ‘their’ client.

It is also the policy of Assisting Hands Home Care to effectively coordinate our services with any person or agency providing care to our clients. We communicate with the client’s primary care physician and specialists on a regular basis on the status of our joint client. If there is a change in that status, we communicate that immediately. We understand that we are part of our client’s continuum of care and we share progress with all those involved.

We have specific competencies in the following areas:

  • Alzheimer’s and Dementia care
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Hospice Care
  • Paraplegic and Quadriplegic care, including hoyer lift

On very short notice we needed help for my mother-in-law when she returned to her assisted living facility after spending a month in rehab for a broken arm. Her facility insisted she have 24 hour attendants till they were satisfied she had readjusted okay and could use her walker safely (which ended up taking a month). Assisting Hands responded very quickly (on a weekend) and got aides lined up for her with only four days notice. Both the administrative staff and the aides were all very professional and even more importantly friendly, kind and warm - really felt like they were all just helpful people by nature. My mother-in-law can very fussy (example: her dentist actually refuses to see her anymore), but all the folks at Assisting Hands were understanding and patient with her. I would recommend them to anyone, and will use them again if the occasion ever arises again (hopefully not, but you never know).

Highly recommend this service. From the very beginning, John and his team were very compassionate, professional and genuine in helping us with a solution. We encountered a few hurdles with the state but John resolved it promptly. Now that the PCA program is in place with 2 visits per day, my sister is enjoying independent living at home. They are very reliable and dependable. My family and I highly recommend Assisting Hands of Wilmington.
