About This Community
Home Instead is a non-medical provider of personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands, incidental transportation and even Alzheimer's and dementia care. Our CAREGivers encourage, assist, and stimulate our clients in a variety of activities that improve their quality of life and help them maintain their independence. All of these services allow a senior to stay HOME INSTEAD for a longer period of time.
Home Instead - Caregiver Skills
Safety training on home safety, avoiding injury and falls, preventing strain and pain, safety in the kitchen, cautious cleaning, safe driving, outdoor safety hazards, and disease protection and prevention.
Basic training on emergency situations including stroke, falls and fractures and sudden illness, communication tips including communicating to those with dementia or Alzheimer's, activities for seniors to engage in, mealtime preparations, housekeeping tips, signs of abuse, and tips on reducing caregiver stress.
Advanced training on understanding senior illnesses and conditions, depression in seniors, caregiver stress, in-home exercise for older adults, making mealtime fun, communication tips with the senior, their family, and the caregiver's franchise office.
Activity training including reminiscing activities, modifying activities, activities in facilities, adapting activities for those with impairments, different types of engaging activities for older adults such as gardening, mind builders, and crafts and hobbies, and getting a senior involved in the community in places like senior centers, worship services, volunteering and errands.

Home Instead caregivers always took the best care of my grandmother in law. I would recommend them to anyone I know. She would go above and beyond to fulfill her every need. Because of that my wife and I were given peace of mind that her grandmother would always be ok in their care.

My husband and I decided to try Home Instead-Oak Park for my bedridden 83 year old grandmother. She really wants to be at home however both myself and my husband work. When I had the initial consultation with Richard, we discussed my grandmother’s wants and the care that she currently needs. The caregiver that was sent was exactly what we need for my grandmother. She is a great companion and takes very good care of her. When my husband and I need to get out for a date night, I know I can call Richard and he will have someone here to stay with her. All of the caregivers that have taken care of her are always on time and have the knowledge to make sure she is clean, fed, and also engaged. I strongly recommend Home Instead-Oak Park if you are looking for someone to care for your loved one.

Home Instead has provided 4 hrs of service 6 days a week to my mom for the past 5 years. The owners of the Oak Park Home Instead have been wonderful. Dependable, helpful, caring, and understanding and have done their best to take care of every issue that has arisen. I strongly recommend the Harrisons and their team.

I have worked with Home Instead OP for over 10 years to take care of an elderly relative who lived alone. 10 years ago, it stared with a few hours a day and as years progressed, it became full time live in care. I can not say enough about the care and dedication provided by the management. I live out of state and if urgent situations occurred at the house, management went above and beyond to take care of things and keep me informed. Many of the caregivers over the years became like family. They protected and cared for my relative like member of their own family. My elderly relative wanted to age in her home and with the help of Home Instead OP, we were able to make that happen.

Our two caregivers make up a cohesive team. They are very well matched and make my life easier. The main purpose is caregiving to my husband. One of them likes to cook, and the other one likes to clean, so they make a good team that way. They also provide companionship, bathing and dressing him, and giving his medication. I like the way that they picked out the caregivers to match the patients. They bring them for interviews with me, so that they can see the home in which we live. Then the caregiver determines whether they want to work there as well as me determining whether I want them to work. I'm satisfied. I picked out Home Instead based on the reviews in Caring.com.

We give our caregiver the highest marks. She is punctual, cheerful and very helpful. After completing her duties, she does other helpful tasks, staying busy until the end of her shift. She is always neatly dressed.

The management at the Oak Park office has been very professional and caring of my loved one. They have always been available when we needed someone to talk with or come out to the home. Their caregivers are very caring and provide quality care. If we ever need a replacement, they are quick to staff someone.
We are happy to give them a 5 star rating.

I hired Home Instead to provide 24/7 home care for several days after my brother's surgery. I was very impressed with the overall quality of the service and their caregivers. Home Instead made it possible for my mother to stay in her own home with her pets. With family living far away, it was comforting to know that Mom wasn't alone, and that she was well cared for. As her health became worse, Mom's care became quite involved. Her caregivers were up to the task. They were kind, dependable and knowledgable. They respected my mother's independent spirit, and were able to adapt their care to her changing needs and abilities. As a Geriatric Care Manager I am very happy to have Tia and Richard H. that I can refer families to when they are looking for great care for their loved ones to enable them to stay in their home.
I know that they will find a caregiver that will meet the physical and mental needs of the senior they will be caring for and their caregivers are dependable, professional, well-trained and compassionate.
Tia and Richard are great about communicating any questions or concerns with the family and have always been proactive in finding solutions if problems do arise.
