About This Community
Home Instead is a non-medical provider of personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands, incidental transportation and even Alzheimer's and dementia care. Our CAREGivers encourage, assist, and stimulate our clients in a variety of activities that improve their quality of life and help them maintain their independence. All of these services allow a senior to stay HOME INSTEAD for a longer period of time.
Home Instead - Caregiver Skills
Safety training on home safety, avoiding injury and falls, preventing strain and pain, safety in the kitchen, cautious cleaning, safe driving, outdoor safety hazards, and disease protection and prevention.
Basic training on emergency situations including stroke, falls and fractures and sudden illness, communication tips including communicating to those with dementia or Alzheimer's, activities for seniors to engage in, mealtime preparations, housekeeping tips, signs of abuse, and tips on reducing caregiver stress.
Advanced training on understanding senior illnesses and conditions, depression in seniors, caregiver stress, in-home exercise for older adults, making mealtime fun, communication tips with the senior, their family, and the caregiver's franchise office.
Activity training including reminiscing activities, modifying activities, activities in facilities, adapting activities for those with impairments, different types of engaging activities for older adults such as gardening, mind builders, and crafts and hobbies, and getting a senior involved in the community in places like senior centers, worship services, volunteering and errands.

We only had Home Instead with my dad for a short time before he passed away, but I cannot say enough wonderful things about them. We were in a huge hurry to secure 24 hour care and Home Instead made it work for us. Everyone we worked with was professional, knowledgeable and kind. We would recommend Home Instead 100%.

I have joined the ranks of happy supporters of Home Instead. After open heart surgery and complications thereafter, I engaged the services of Home Instead on the recommendation of one of my best friends. I have sung their praises to the many people that need this kind of professional care giver. My caregiver has become a member of the family --my family lives in Washington State but they do come to visit. Every one of them has commented that my caregiver is a welcome member of the family. I have already recommended Home Instead to several of my friends. They are a very professional group of folks and so dependable and caring. My caregiver sat in the hospital with me for hours over a period of two weeks. She happens to also be a great cook and we have enjoyed doing that together! She also inspires me to get outside and exercise. I am very grateful to the whole crew at Home Instead.

Our 88-year-old mother has late-stage Alzheimer's disease that progressed significantly during the pandemic, with her care needs changing rapidly. At each stage, Home Instead responded with skilled, compassionate caregivers who not only provide excellent physical care, but who interact with her on a personal level. They engage her, show her respect and work to provide her with dignity as her care needs progress. They arrive on time, provide input to hospice staff, initiate activities to stimulate and engage our mother (music, conversation, pictures) and ask us about her before her illness so that they can get to know her better.
We work very much as a team, and our family is immensely grateful for her caregivers, and for the responsiveness Home Instead has shown to help meet our mother's needs during a very difficult time.

I first engaged Home Instead in September 2017 to provide caregiving services for my now 91-year-old mother for four hours a day. Throughout the past four years, both my mother and I have found the agency to be extremely professional, responsive and attentive to my mother's needs. The caregivers that the agency has provided are generally diligent and reliable. I have also been impressed that the agency has managed to continue to provide uninterrupted services throughout the pandemic, and has clearly thought through how best to keep its caregivers and their clients safe. We have just had to terminate the relationship because my mother has moved into a nursing facility, but otherwise would have continued to use the agency for the foreseeable future.

My friend's only request was to be at home. Home Instead made that possible. The caregivers were kind, caring, responsible and reliable. The office staff was helpful and informative, handling last minute changes with ease. They not only took excellent care of my friend, but they put my mind at ease. I very much recommend them.

My family hired Home Instead Home Care to assist us in taking my father-in-law home from Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He had many medical needs, but he so badly wanted to get back home. Chellie answered our first call and coordinated an intake nurse to visit immediately, and within 24 hours my father-in-law was back at home. The home care attendant was professional yet caring and compassionate and she quickly became part of the family! Our dad was able to spend his remaining days in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loving family all because of the care provided by the staff at the Sheffield Avenue Home Instead Agency. We will be forever grateful for their assistance!

Home Instead Senior Care is an excellent provider of care for my husband. The caregivers have been outstanding in all areas of their care for my spouse. They understand the progression of his Alzheimer's disease and are extremely patient with him. I know that when I leave that he is excellent hands.
The agency from the receptionist to the visiting nurses to the client manager have all been very responsive. I know that my calls will be returned promptly and that they are there to help.

We are EXTREMELY PLEASED with Home Instead and with the caretaker they assigned to us. Both top-notch. We are also pleased with he company itself- its customer satisfaction program with a supervisor coming out every month, and in our dealings with the office staff. They have gone beyond the call of duty to accommodate the needs of my disabled wife. Our caretaker is an angel from Heaven and has helped maintain my wife's quality of life to the highest degree.
We couldn't be more pleased with Home Instead!

In March, 2018 my 90 year old father needed caregivers. On the recommendation of a friend, I called Home Instead, and they have provided excellent service for him ever since. The initial call set up the evaluation meeting in just a few days and the caregivers started shortly thereafter.
Initially the thought was he just needed someone there for a few hours during the day but it quickly changed to needing someone 24/7.
It has been a seamless process, and the agency has provided excellent caregivers who have truly been wonderful for my father. They have been very thorough in finding the right match for him. I have been made aware of any schedule changes in a timely fashion.
He currently has several regular caregivers, but in the event one is not available they are very thoughtful about a replacement that would be good for my father.
I cannot say enough good things about every aspect of my experience with Home Instead! The caregivers are truly kind exemplary individuals, the staff at the office are thorough and friendly & monthly nurse's visit helpful in understanding the status of my father's health.
It is a comfort not just to me but his entire family.

Staff and caregiver are wonderful. Staff made sure that my brother's needs were met and family needs met. This was not a one-time check. It was continual. They didn't send someone to fill in more time needed because they wanted excellent match.

I use this service for my elderly parents, one of whom has dementia and the other of whom has limited mobility. Home Instead is staffed by very responsive staff who thoughtfully work with families to place caregivers. I have peace of mind knowing that there is accountability in the system. Shelley and Karen at the HomeInstead office in Chicago are particularly professional, competent and understanding. It is difficult to match caregivers with families but Home Instead does their best. Our family has had good luck with the current set of caregivers placed with us. Very competent overnight caregivers were placed very quickly when the need arose. One happened to be available within one day and became a regular for a five-night-a-week schedule, and another was available in time for remaining needed two nights per week. and also became a regular. I don't think it gets better than Home Instead.

The care and warmth given by Home Instead Senior Care is without peer! My particular caregiver, Pam S,. was so easy to have around and so open to anything I asked for. The whole experience really was like having a true old friend in my home.

Personnel are most courteous, professional and caring when I have contact with them. My uncle is the client. He is a somewhat difficult person with whom to deal, but all caregivers seemed to do their best for him, as far as I can tell.

Our caregiver Liz is exceptional. Not only does she follow my instructions she also sees and executes tasks. I have not even thought of her sunny, cheerful attitude that makes our aches and pains almost tolerable. She has literally rejuvenated two old people.

After our Dad passed away, we needed someone to stay with our Mom during the day. The staff at Home Instead matched us with a care giver who was perfect for Mom and her particular needs. For 3 years, Jean was reliable and provided Mom with the best of care and companionship. As Mom's care needs changed toward the end, the staff at Home Instead were able to provide us with the additional help that we needed - even within hours. We are so pleased to have found Home Instead! They were always available, caring, and supportive. We highly recommend Home Instead for any family looking for a caregiving provider that is reliable and responsive to their needs.

Home Instead came to the rescue when my mom, who has Alzheimer's, declined quickly and needed a caregiver. The office staff are responsive, understanding and work quickly to meet your needs. The caregivers are simply amazing - caring, friendly, patient and truly loving. I highly recommend Home Instead!
