The service from Comfort Keepers has been pretty good. Most of the caregivers I had were good, but there were some whose hearts weren't really in it. You can tell they don't like the work. The girl I had today was very nice. My knees are really bad, so I need them to help me around the house, running things for me, making my bed, and maybe doing a little washing once in a while. I do have a house keeper, so they don't have to do heavy cleaning, just assisting me around the house and taking me grocery shopping.

In the beginning, Comfort Keepers was very attentive to what we were looking for in making sure that the caregiver was compatible with my mom, but unfortunately, the turnover was quick. Our first caregiver was really good. We liked her a lot, but she eventually ended up getting another job. For about a year or so, we had different caregivers coming in, but they just weren’t right. We felt like Comfort Keepers was almost scrambling to find the right fit for us. At one point, we had a different caregiver every day of the week, and that’s not good. It’s frustrating to constantly have Mom readjust to somebody new. At one point, there was a girl there that was 18 years old, had never worked with Alzheimer's patients, and knew nothing about the disease. Either she wasn’t doing anything or she didn’t know what to do and was constantly having to have my dad stop working and basically come downstairs and do everything that she was supposed to be doing. They found us somebody that they originally wanted to put with us a year or two ago but she was with another family and couldn’t switch her over. We’re very happy with the caregiver that we have now; she’s doing very well. Everybody is happy and comfortable. She has experience working with the medical condition that my mom has and has the maturity level that we’re looking for. She takes initiative to do things. My dad works from home, so the reason he needs an in-home caregiver is so that he could work.
