About This Community

Thanks for inquiring about in-home care through Senior Helpers. Here's some background information on who we are, what we do and why we do it.

A few years ago, my wife and I needed help with her mother because we both worked. So we choose our caregivers as if we were hiring someone to come into our own home. It's the reason we got into this business. What we found was that the helpers made a huge difference in her life, giving her a sense of independence in that she got help she wanted when she needed it "“ but also giving my wife peace of mind. There was another benefit we hadn't anticipated: Because her mother's needs were being met, she could enjoy more of the time she had with her mother.

Our experiences when we needed help were not all good. While we had some very nice ladies who came to care for her mother, sometimes they were late. Sometimes they didn't show up at all. Sometimes a substitute showed up without any notification from the agency. Sometimes these substitutes knew nothing about Marian's mother's needs.

We make every effort to do better -- and it starts with hiring the right people, those who view this work as a calling and not just a job. After you hire us, we come personally with our caregiver to introduce her to your family "“ a caregiver chosen only after meeting with you to fully understand your family's needs. We prepare a care plan in advance and review it with her before she starts, as well as during that first meeting. If we must send a substitute (if, for example, the regular caregiver is sick), we make every effort to come with the substitute to introduce her, after explaining your family's needs.

If you're like most folks looking for help, you have concerns about having someone come into your home or that of a loved one to provide care. Our hiring process includes a national criminal history check, phone calls to families they've worked with in the past, an extensive orientation, verification of certified nursing assistant licenses and more. And, of course, we have a core group of ladies who have worked for us for a long time and whom we know well.

When we set up service, it's our intent to send the same caregiver for however long we provide service. Our caregivers are my employees, which means we supervise and monitor them closely, pay their FICA taxes, and they are carefully screened with extensive reference and background checks. And we're licensed by the state. I can provide documentation of all the insurance coverages ($1 million Workmen's Comp, $1 million general liability, $25,000 bond) and a copy of our license if you'd like.

In addition to bathing, dressing, toileting, ambulating, transferring and feeding "“ all considered personal, hands-on care, our caregivers can also provide:

  • Caring Companionship & Conversation
  • Light Housekeeping
  • Alzheimer's & Dementia Care
  • Monitoring bathing, dressing, toileting
  • Meal Planning & Preparation
  • Organize Closets & Pantries
  • Medication Reminders
  • Laundry
  • Help with Bills/Mail
  • Errands & Transportation

We look forward to speaking with you.

We first met Tori, Senior Helpers representative, in May 2016 when we had to face the inevitable fact that our mom was leaving the hospital to go home under Hospice care. Tori and the Senior Helpers staff were by our side from that day on until our mother passed on May 5, 2016. The Senior Helper and nurse were at Mom's house the moment we arrived from the hospital. There was a glitch in the Hospice transition and Jennifer, Senior Helpers nurse, stayed with us and provided guidance until 1 a.m. when Hospice finally arrived. Throughout the next 10 days, Senior Helpers were with our Mom 24/7, lovingly taking care of her every need. They were a joy to have in our home and dedicated to providing our mother with respectful care and concern in a warm and friendly way. Thanks to Senior Helpers and Hospice our Mother passed away with her dignity and privacy in tact. We would highly recommend Senior Helpers for all families in need of this service.

I hired Senior Helpers to assist my mom and dad with daily living assistance. Dad has advanced dementia, and mom has moderate. They always had a strong desire to stay in their home, and were pretty healthy overall so having in-home care was an excellent option for them. I was very happy with the approach to care that is taken by Senior Helpers which led me to make the call. Once the assessment was done, we worked on a schedule to meet my parents needs. Although we started with only 4 hours a day, 3 times a week, we increased it to 12 hours, 7 days a week because my dad fell several times when nobody was there. The caregivers made a good impression on my mom, and eventually my dad, who was a little confused at first. He was sleeping a lot, but they managed to get him up each morning, assist him with personal care and have him eat decent meals. Although he has some bad days, he seems more engaged overall, and happy to have the care. I live out-of-state and although I have some family to look in on them, it wasn't enough to ensure their safety and health. I found Senior Helpers to be very conscientious of their services, flexible to meet the changing needs of the clients, informative about the various levels of care needed, and knowledgeable of the care provided by other agencies, like Hospice.

My mother has a caregiver from Senior Helpers that comes every afternoon. The care is good and we have no problem with it. She's there for four hours from two to six and right now it is working our really well. She makes good conversation and they get along well.

I found my representative from Senior Helpers truly cared about what was best for my mother, and took quite a bit of time to find the perfect caregiver. I'm very impressed with our caregiver from Senior Helpers, and having someone I trust look after my mother a few days a week is a HUGE relief!
